Which cutting disks?

  1. Are best for greenhouse type glass.

I have managed to 3/4 reglaze my newly moved greenhouse without having
to cut any glass. Nor, I might add, losing a single solitary pingfuckit
in the process which is quite an achievement in itself but the last bits
need me to do glass cutting. Which, incidentally, I have never done
before in my whole life so in the process I shall be adding a new skill
    to the list.

It'll be the 1.5kw Angle Grinder not the toy by the way.

Check if it's toughened glass. If it is, then cutting it is a job for a
specialist (unless you want to try the burning string thing).

You don't want a nangle grinder, you want a glass cutter. You score the
line you want to cut, rest it on a couple of matchsticks, and apply
pressure. The idea is it snaps along the line.

    Sometimes it even works.

  3. Don't be silly, it is cheapo greenhouse glass.

    "Burning string" thing?? Explain please.

    Yes I do, no I don't.[1]

20 pounds a gram, with you so far.

Is that it? No sparks? No noise? No risks to health and safety?
    Wossa point?

    How about a gas axe?

[1] As this is liable to be one of those once in a lifetime things an
expensive one with a lifetime guarantee is fairly pointless?

Mrs WUN's greenhouse has toughened glass.
I've never done this, but apparently if you want to cut toughened glass,
you can stretch hairy string soaked in a flammable fluid along the line
you want to cut, then set fire to it. As it burns it anneals the glass,
and you can then cut it. Apparently.
There has to be a point now?

  7. Toughened glass are you talking about? The stuff that shatters into a
zillion nearly harmless pieces? Mine is the sort that breaks into long
    pointy bits.

  8. So how do I tell the difference?

I have hairy green string and petrol. I feel a plan coming on. Do I
    need chapatti flour?

    Not really no.

Break it. If it shatters into sharp bits, it wasn't toughened...

Forget discs, use a Flo-jet. The only way to go.

  11. As it turns out an expensive one might well have made a difference.

I bought a £2.99 one from Homebase and it is shit. None of this just
score a line business, I had to use far more force than I thought
necessary to get a decent line with it. You could easily feel it
getting blunt on successive cuts. I was rather disappointed as it did
not make the job go smoothly.

Still, all done now and one fully glazed greenhouse complete with token
first plant to show for my efforts and no need for a transfusion.

Because lots of pressure is GOOD.
