I'm planning to change my helmet as it cracked and there is just so
much choice if you check on the web opposed to local shops... I have
around £200 budget to spend on it. What would you recommend?
What do you think about brands such as Shark or Caberg? Any good? I'm
sure that many of you would recommend Arai or high end Shoei "cause
you have only one head"... right... We have only to arms and legs but
it doesn't mean I'll be riding in an armour made of steel. Anyway, if
I could afford any of them probably I would by one but I can't so here
    we go.

Go and try a few on. Or even more than a few. You really need one
that fits. A 'budget' brand that fits properly is better than a
    'premium' brand that doesn't.

Do you mean that it can't be loose in any place? What difference will
it make if it's slightly loose? I don't believe I would loose it on
impact as you got this chin strap that keeps it in place anyway.
    Thanks

I'd recommend forgetting about the web and going to a local shop. Say
where you are and someone may be able to recommend a good one.

I bought a Shoei XR1000 for about the much. Very light, very quiet,
very comfy. Can't fault it so far.

Gah! This 'Shoei' or 'Arai' shaped head is all pants!! It depends on
the model of each manufacturer at that point in time, and whether or
not it fits you. I've owned models of both makes that fitted perfectly
well, I've also tried on models of both makes that didn't..

You need to go to an establishment that has a variety of helmets and
    sizes and try them on.

Yes, and no. In standard trim Arai's don't fit me whereas most Shoei's
do, straight out of the box.

I liked an Arai I saw, and got chatting to one of the assistants, and
he suggested coming in when the Arai trained asistant came back in,
who could custom trim and pad the liner to fit.

    Which he did.

So I do have an Arai shaped head after a lot of cutting, shutting,
    glueing [1] and padding.

    Paul.

[1] With special Arai branded glue, no less ..

Yeaqrs ago I tried on a Shoei, didn't fit. Tried on an Arai, it was
perfect. A few years later I was at the Manchester Bike Show, tried a
Shoei on and it was a perfect fit! So, it looks like the main thing is
to buy what you have tried on, as things do change over time.

Yes, up to a point. There are Arais that fit me better than other
Arais for example, but I don't think I've ever had a Shoei, AGV or
Nitro, to name just three, that will fit me whatever model.

Having said that, I tend to just head (heh) straight for the Arai
section these days as I know they will almost certainly fit and I'm
happy with my previous 4 Arais.
That's what I said to the OP in my initial reply. Gah!

Thank you all guys for your tips. I guess I just visit some shop and
try a couple on (or some more)
and then when I find one that fits as you all suggest I can always
search the web if don't like the painting.
    Cheers

Sorry Paul, but Leslie is dead right on this one. Every Shoei and Arai
model fits differently to the next one. There is no such thing as an
    Arai or Shoei shaped head.

I bow to Loz's superior knowledge on this, but I tend to agree with
you. I avoided Arai's for years as I knew they wouldn't fit (and I
tried on a *hell* of a lot). It was only by talking to a decent helmet
seller that I realised Arai are happy for them to be custom fitted to
you (as long as it's done by someone trained, and not some sales
    monkey).
