Just wondering what it's like around the Whitsunday area for motorcycling.
Might decide to work in the area and take my GS500E. Great beaches.

Queensland's islands are sort of small and roundish, right? I'm thinking goldfish in a fishbowl.
Swim ... swim ... mmm, nice rock ... swim ... swim ... mmm, nice rock ... swim ... swim ... mmm, nice
rock ... swim ... swim ... mmm, nice rock ... swim ... swim ... mmm, nice
rock ... swim ... swim ... mmm, nice rock ... swim ... swim ... mmm, nice
    rock (and so on).
Substitute "swim" with "blat" and I think you have motorcycle touring in
    the Whitsundays?

If you are on the mainland (Airlie Beach is considered part of WhitSundays)
then you will find some nice riding. The only Island with paved roads would
take all of 2 minutes to ride around, it would be worth to terrorise the
tourists on the stupid golf buggies though!

I think they only have 9 hole gold courses actually. To be a tree hugger
they shouldnt have golf courses at all so close to reefs but nevermind.
This was back in 1999 so the information is completey inaccurate now anyway
:) But yes it is affordable to live near the beach. I rented a unit
overlooking Shute Harbour for $90 a week (1 bedroom, elec, water etc all
paid) and I had a 1 minute walk to the ferry to get to work.
Probably not anymore. Nice houses where my unit was (the trendy part of
Airlie Beach) were about 400,000 plus. Who knows what they are at now but
the steam is coming out of the home market now and rental yields have been
low for the past 5 years so if you cant buy you can rent nicely.

    Cheers,
    Damo

I'm sure I've heard Jodie mutter similar words at various times. ;-)
