Yeah, I bet all the coppers were sniggering to themselves as they wolfed
down yet another pie as the traffic all around them was at a stand.

    er..

I'm sure there is always fault of some sort but frankly IDGAF because on
balance keeping thousands of people trapped in cars without bogs or cups of
tea, for half a day or more, is less in the public interest than getting the
last few shreds of evidence. They just need a nice JCB kept every few miles
and bulldoze the lanes clean again after taking a few pics and measurements.
Lets face it most M-Way is covered by cameras of one sort or another these
    days.

I wasn't commenting on the road closures rather the slightly sniffy tone
Simon used in relation to not referring to incidents as accidents.

When the Armstrong broke its cambelt on the M1 I was quickly met by some
officious wombles - whilst I'd imagine they would be reassuring for a
lone female or someone elderly or of a nervous disposition I could really
do without their faux copper cuntedness.

There are elements of a ghastly Blakey culture amongst some aspects of
jobs with a bit of responsibility - they should learn those with real
authority don't need to show it.

    Well yes ok
It winds me up the way folk slow down for them and the queues that build up
    behind them

IKWYM. It costs me nearly 20 fucking quid to get a train into London
    these days!

Yes, but I'm only popping out for a few beers.
I can use the Inter-City (if it's still called that) service for part
    of the journey now!

I believe that is what's known as an unregulated fare. The 21% cuts
Hammond has to implement isn't going to make it any cheaper...

Oh yeah, but it'd be like going to London from Slough, via Bristol.
I wasn't actually being serious. I even remember the thread about it costing
a grand to get from Devon to Scotland on the train.

I believe riding a tad over 100 miles on the M6 is a loss I can learn to
    live with.
    See my reply to Champ.

Maybe they're thinking that the Plod-Lite will radio ahead to a real Plod
    and give them your number.

Still cunts though. And that's both of them, Plod-Lite and the cunts who
    won't pass 'em.

I travelled to Lunnon from Leeds 2 weeks ago, returning in 1st for under
    £200.
That's over £100 worth of petrol, 8 hours driving, congestion charge and
parking nightmares. Money well spent and booked only a few days before.

I find that in quieter times the Quiet Car is the best way to go. On busy
trains it has to be 1st. Yes there is the odd pinstripe braying into his
phone but on busy trains the guards refuse to enforce any rules in the Quiet
Car, then threaten to have you arrested when you offer to chin some **** for
    blasting out music.

I'm confused. Who doesn't think the M6 or M1 is fun on a motorbike? I think
playing high speed Slice & Dice is as much fun as a track day, with added
    danger.

I found train fares from Bedford into London fairly reasonable at
off-peak times. I was using the train to visit Guy's Hospital because
London Bridge Station is right next door, plus riding a bike home would
have been nigh on impossible directly after a kidney operation. The
trains ran on time too, which surprised me

My only complaint is that every train smelt of stale piss

They won't be for the next few weeks - 319s are murder this time of year,
they've been known to start sliding on greasy rails whilst at a stand.

The 319 stock is getting a bit elderly and was a shoestring lash up by BR
in the mid/late 80s - the toilet tanks on those need emptying regularly
and if they miss a trip to the CET they can get a bit whiffy.

It also doesn't help that FCC isn't famed for their cleaning regimes.

Incidentally, the older 455 suburban stock went in for heavy
refurbishment 6 or 7 years ago and they noticed there was significant
corrosion of the underframes in the door areas, particularly in the
corners. It was thought the door seals were failing allowing water to
pool and then leaking down onto the frames.

Someone then pointed out the stock was used on a lot of late night trains
    and had no toilets...
