Why are Harleys considered the best ?

Discussion in 'Motorcycle Racing' started by Kevin McMurtrie, Feb 9, 2005.

  1. Why are Harleys considered the best? Is it just American pride talking,
or are they *REALLY* made better? Are they good for racing? Serious
    questions. Thanks.

    Thanks.

  2. Hey! HD's new 12-sided wheels produce much less vibration than
    the old 6-sided wheels.

  3. And most people within the US (having an IQ>99) also consider harleys a
    joke.

Doctors, Lawyers, and accountants (in chaps) with clip-on ponytails,
temporary tattoos, and harleys; $18,000 strap-on cocks!

No, they are no good for road racing, and they are not made better.
The trouble with Harleys is, they attract so many posing jerks.
The bikes themselves shouldn't be compared to modern Jap and Euro
tackle. That is to miss the point, because on specifications alone,
other bikes beat them in almost every respect. If you want a Harley
though, you don't care about that. Harleys are unique.

  5. I think only Harley owners believe this. In my opinion they suck.
Overweight, weird handling and in my eyes freakin' ugly. Whats the
point of having a bike that has trouble outrunning any modern family
car ? You could name the spirit of freedom and the wind blowing in
your hair but this comes much more cheaply on better handling and
    cheaper asian or european alternatives.

That's funny, my "european" BMW K1200LT wasn't much cheaper than the
Ultra Classic I had before it. And despite the Beemer's cheapness (LOL)
and "better handling" (not to mention top-heavy), I went with an Ultra
    again. Me like it better.

And me have no twouble wit dem "modern family cars." Them cars must
    drive slow wheres I at.

  7. Must be American cars rather than the better handling and cheaper asian or
    european alternatives.

The poor quality troll notwithstanding, I am reminded how many people miss
the obvious component of perceived value, utility, warm & fuzzies, the
    "experience", whatever you call it.

Until trolls can comprehend that different people value, for example, the
acceleration of a push rod v-twin compared to high revving Japanese bike,
they will never stop. Likewise, any other visceral reaction that creates
value in the mind of the owner.

Yeah, I could probably get something cheaper, but I chose to own what I
want. I don't see why my personal preference is worthy of comment or
    criticism from anyone.

I can get a very accurate Asian watch for less then three bucks, a gold
Rolex for probably $15,000. But the Rolex has never been about telling time.

I would have blown this post off, but I am sitting here, watching snow,
knowing that I am heading to FL and Daytona next week. Hope to see everyone
    at Smiley's.

    Regards,

    Doug

If you've got a "top heavy" Beemer then it's time to go on a diet...

I find the K1200LT very "top heavy". Love it for long rides (did 3300 miles
in 5 days as part of my SS1000), but it's a bitch at slow speeds and in
close quarters. My wife now prefers my RK, since she senses my anxiety with
    the LT.

  13. Of what? If I'd wanted a Harley I'd have bought
one... I don't so I didn't. They are nice but not
for me...not enough power for one thing. That and
all the postures that ride them and think chrome
and loud pipes are cool. Dumb fucks the lot of
them, chrome does NOTHING and only people with
little dicks have loud pipes. Don't like that?
Thought shit KF me and sod off you short dicked
    losers.

History does not record anywhere at any time a
religion that has any rational basis. Religion is
a crutch for people not strong enough to stand up
to the unknown without help. But, like dandruff,
most people do have a religion and spend time and
money on it and seem to derive considerable
    pleasure from fiddling with it.

Nah. It's the American drivers in BMWs and Mercedes that are holding things
up. Coming back from watching the ice racing tonight, two of those posers held
up my son all the way from Great Falls to Dranesville.... in his 1989 Ford Crown
    Victoria.... station wagon.

It ain't what you got, it's how you ride it (or drive it).

  16. Nah. If you read that remark from Thomas again, what Roach said is
exactly what's goes on with insecure types like that. Seen it
    eventually proven true quite often.

Where I live, there is a motorcycle dealer who sells both Harley's and
Honda's. First I looked at the Honda Sabre 1100's. Then I looked at the HD
Sportster 1200. Let me tell you I was shocked. In fact, I said to the
salesmen why does the HD (which is 100 cc bigger) look significanly smaller
than the Honda? Between that and the price, I couldn't justify the HD.

You should get my mail sometime...not to you the
    stuff I get.

What is sad is that mostly the "Haters" on
both side of the fence are a small percentage of
idiots who annoy those of us who ride enough that
    we don't dislike any brand.
Like I said...nice, not for me. That and there
are so many morons, idiots and losers who think
loud pipes, chrome yadda, yadda the whole MoCo
lifestyle bullshite lemming AOL'ers attitude is
what soured me. Granted IF I were to find a 1948
panhead in restorable condition in one of the
barns here on the res you can be sure I'll own it
by hook or crook. It'll be nice to build it to
stock form and then piss off the collectors by
riding the piss out of it. Then turn around piss
off the chopper wannbe punks by leaving it
stock...and riding circles around their non-riding
    poseur asses.
But the new stuff ain't for me, too many
wannabe bad boys with short dicks and chrome.
