Why didn't anyone tell me bike indicators don't self-cancel?

I've mentioned it before, but given that most (nearly all) race
circuits are clockwise, and hence mostly right hand corners, why are
most inline four sports bikes fitted with end-cans on the RHS of the
bike (apart from the odd underseat exception, of course)?

Surely ground-clearance issues would suggest a LHS fitment as making
    more sense.

These days I only get confused when riding RHS, so I have to keep on
alert when the bonneville is on the road. my brain is pretty well
    wired for LHS now.

Gear change on left==gearbox output shaft on left==drive chain on
    left==exhaust on right.
Production bikes are not actually designed for race tracks, you know.
However much the manufacturers might pretend otherwise.

hmm - you're spoiling the argument with logic. Stop it at once.
well, d'uh. But the race bikes also have the exhaust end-cans on the
    RHS.

People would think a fork lift truck was reversing up the road.

I wasn't criticising. FFS I can't remember where I put my keys most days. Or
    my varifocals.

To paraphrase Mister Johnson, nothing will focus the mind better than
having the living shit scared out of you. Adrenalin flows and you will
notice everything you do. The next time it happens, make certain a
lorry is in front of you.

Stop being sensitive. I can remember one of the manufacturers having
audible indicators and I obviously got which one it was wrong.
