Why is it....

  1. The more power a bike has the less fun it is to ride. Ride by girlfriends
scooter and I end up pissing myself, my VTR250 and DL650 are both an absolute
giggle as well. Get on the fireblade or GSX-R1000 and you are so busy watching
you don't 12 o'clock it the fun just isn't there most of the time. Even on the
track you are so busy watching what you are doing it is hard to relax and enjoy
    it.

Crazy Cam, weren't you wanting to sell Bluey to someone who would
    appreciate it?

You're preaching to the choir here Fraser. ('eh CrazyCam?)
It is horses for courses though; I had a hoot on BT's GPX and Hammo's
VTR 250s but gNatalie's TU250 was pretty frightening to ride in
    traffic.
My old 500 Ducati Pantah was a scream to ride anywhere except straight
roads and it had about the same HP as a modern 250.
Even big bikes like my 80hp R1100 was a real joy to blast around on.
In fact; now that I think about it I've never actually owned an
over-100hp bike.... (and never really wanted one either!)

  4. Maybe for you Fraser.... not for me.

I've got a shed full ranging from about 12 HP to well over 100 (about 170
at the wheel I think) and they're all fun
The beast is pure excitement, passion and /or fear at any time of your
choosing. A high powered well set up sports bike can be a joy to behold, an
almost religious experience. Sure you can risk your license every time you
venture out but that's the price, or one part of it, the other being
    ridiculous maintenance costs.
Anyway I love them all and I've paid dearly for the opportunity. Though I
believe, for me, it's bloody good value.

For you? maybe not but I rarely sell a bike and cherish the ones I am
fortunate enough to own from the classic trials to the big bore tourer and
the bloody weapon with many in between. They all move me in their own
    special way..

Don't knock the superbikes one day you may find Big Brother has taken them
away and you may never again get to experience the joy, adrenin rush and
pure bliss they can impose on your psyche.

You must be doing something wrong. I don't think I've ever ridden a
bike that wasn't fun to ride. Some are a different _type_ of fun to
others. Riding a vespa through peak hour city traffic in the rain can
be fun, as can spinning up the rear wheel on a ZX12R around hairpins
    while 2-up.

The bigger ones need the right eviron
low power means it feels a lot more gogogo
    know what I mean ?

take a 200bhp toy out into the country on long fast sweepers and
    revitalise your self

  7. Wash your mouth out with soap young man.

I'll agree that any bike is fun to ride, but I simply (personally)
cannot agree with that statement. I want something that is constantly
trying to hurt me, even if it means I have to physically drag the
fucker into a corner. I want it to be spitting bits of rubber in the
face of the person trying to follow me. YMMV

On the other hand, take a small light bike out into the Adelaide Hills
and revitalise your self without risking your licence.

Of course the transport section's a bastard....

  9. I cannot agree with you.

    Here is why :-

On my younger days my first motor cycle was a BSA Bantam 125 cc, you would
wrap it on and wait 1/2 and hour for it to respond.

Then I upgraded to an AJS 350 cc, yes it was faster, if I laid down over the
tank I could get 65 MPH (104 KPH) if I waited long enough and there were no
    hills or head winds.

Again you wrapped it on and it took quite a while to respond.

Now I have a 1200 cc Kawasaki Ninja, wrap it on and hold on, it takes off.

Great when you are passing cars, zap, and you are passed them.

Had it up to 195 KPH (121 MPH) once, and only once.

It is suppose to do 300 KPH, but I will not be taking it there.

Yes you can throw the lighter bikes around a lot easier, but I prefer a bit
of power. Sure the newer light bikes have more power than those I quoted,
but I will stick with my Ninja.

Enjoy your riding on the lighter bikes.

    Hi Fraser.

    FWIW, I agree with you.

Obviously, others may not agree, but, certainly on public roads, I can't
see the enjoyment of the full-on litre sports bikes.

They are, typically, capable of doing over the old imperial ton, in
    first gear!

This, if used and noticed by the wrong people wins you a ride in the
back of the police car, and you still haven't changed gear!

Part of my enjoyment of riding is the nice quiet satisfied feeling of
using the motorcycle (or scooter) to its full capabilities, so screaming
around on the old Yammie 125 at 9/10ths was much more fun than poodling
along on the Hornet at 3/10ths.

Even on a track, I certainly don't have the skill and ability to go at
9/10ths on an R1/Fireblade/Gixxer thou, and riding a really fast bike
slowly seems somehow a bit of a waste to me. <shrug>

    Dunno.

A couple of weeks ago, I was up at Mt.White, and a bunch of us decided
    to go back to Pie.

First off was a Triumph Rocket III, he had left, and it was a couple of
minutes before I set off after him.

So there I am screaming along on Bluey at 80 kph in chase.

Fortunately I caught up with the Rocket, and slowed down, since I
couldn't see room to pass him, just before the Highway Patrol car
    appeared in the other direction.

<insert smug self satisfied grin here>

There it is in a nutshell; riding a fast bike slowly is dull (and
generally uncomfortable), while riding a slow bike fast is fun.

  14. OK, rub it in why don't you.

Is this where I tell you my 24 year old flatmate wandered into my
bedroom while I was typing that previous post and was holding a
conversation with me about us moving out (we have that joy this
weekend). Stark bloody naked. Somewhat distracting. I've sort of got
used to it. But only sort of.

One does wonder if she is going to have to grab you by the something
    and drag you off.

She must be well into losing that bet by now.

  19. Hmm I hadn't perused the whole album for yonks. It certainly is a

OK - just for the hell of it, here's another one.

    Last Wednesday's Mercury.
Well I didn't know she'd been reported missing did I? I was trying to
give a girl in distress a lift home. To HER place. But she wouldn't
tell me the address. In the end I offered her my spare room and to
drive her home the next morning when she felt better. The spare room
bit didn't eventuate. She's a persuasive girl. The story is a lot
longer than that and has many more sordid details which I have no
intention posting here. The cops and her mum were just glad she was
safe when I finally found out she was missing and the police were
looking for her. Well I don't listen to local radio and don't watch TV
    do I?

Life has certainly been interesting since Kerry left me.

Give me a motorcycle and a bit of stability in my life again please.

  20. She did have one on her Facebook page for a while, but Facebook pulled
her account for breaching their terms. She had to beg them to be a
good girl and not to put nekkid photos on the site and they
reinstated. It was only soft porn but it was pushing it a bit. I had
to explain that there are kids reading Facebook too, Jen. She was
shitty they had pulled her account :)
