Talking of CBX750s. I hadn't seen one in years, thankfully, but today
one appeared in our Sunday local paper. It belongs to an old boy who
did a charity ride across Africa and it was in the background on his
    driveway for a posing shot.

  2. Find somebody doing a similar job with a commute in the opposite
direction and deskswap, but each keep their own salaries and benefits.
Big advantage is, you can tell his boss to shove it and still have your
own job, and hope he doesn't do the same.

In which case, if the company is still in existence, you have a very
good chance of winning a case against them.

    Unfortunately not.

They paid the minimum one months notice as stated in my contract and because
I'd only been with them seven months, the one solicitor I contacted about it
reckoned there was no case to be answered.

To be honest, they've done me a favour as I wasn't enjoying it there in the
end and I was looking forward even less to the post 'centralisation'
environment I'd have been working in as of January.

It's just the bank balance which rues the loss more than anything.

Ah. The seven months thing would make it more difficult. Unless you can
    prove discrimination. So, being the
    gay-one-legged-black-muslim-pregnant-dwarf that you are...

I doubt it very much; currently commute 120 miles a day and often do the
200 mile trip once a week.
Well, I've been doing this for years; used to do 100miles plus each way
(in a company car) in a previous employment.
    Certainly feels that way.

  7. A couple of brothers that work at my place have, until recently, been
commuting just under 300 miles ever day.

    Each way.

    Nutters.

Again, unfortunately not. Had I been there a year or more, I would have had
a case for definite by all accounts... which is possibly another reason why,
in the face of my questioning the effective demotion it appeared I was
expected to take as part of the restructure and was therefore apparently
being viewed as 'difficult', I was given notice.

    'Consultation'?

    More like 'cuntsultation', IME.

Had I not had a job of a, and I quote, 'sensitive nature' (1), then I
suspect I may have been expected to work the notice period.

A small consolation is my outgoing boss disagreed with it all and did try
and fight my corner for me, but it would appear the incoming fuckface fuhrer
at HQ wasn't in the mood to listen, despite the excellent references said
outgoing boss had given for me.

It's just a shame it's so quiet out there at the mo that I've not been able
to land anything as of yet that would have meant actually getting right
ahead financially due to the pay in lieu of notice I'm also due for the same
    period.
A shame in here isn't moderated, else you might have found yourself in line
    for some compensation soon: http://tinyurl.com/5jzn84

Sexual things and the places they happen
No! I never knew that. Mind you I've never hung around there after
    dark.

S'wot I said - so long as you buy sensibly, no reason why you wouldn't get
most, if not all, of your money back in the event you need to start cashing
in all your chips, so to speak.
