    Paging the visor-isti ......

The windshield on the Majesty is a rather nice thing to have for
weather protection and general comfort but over the years it has
aquired many very fine scratches which tend to make it a tad hard
to see through in direct sunlight. I presume that the plastic is
similar (lexan ?) to that used for helmet visors.

Is there a way of polishing these out or is it best left alone ?

That was his normal reply. Lexan is to soft to be polished more than gently.

OTOH I have had *some* good results on visors with GS27

    http://www.amazon.com/GS27-US150208-Universal-Scratch-Remover/dp/B0007N5848

Bloody good stuff for what it's actually made for, IME.

There is a way, but it's not what you'd expect. Lacquering the screen works
and it allows it to be polished later on too. Polishing the bare plastic
will result in nowt more than more scratches.

    Interesting.
Does it need a special technique or can I just remove the screen, lay it
flat, and give it a light coat of 2K clear lacquer ?
Preparation could be a problem, washing with solvents such as thinner
    would almost certainly be disastrous.

I wonder if, hypothetically obviously, one were to cool the plastic to
well below zero while polishing it would work.

The logical answer therefore is to go on holiday with Andy and take
    some brasso with you.

I don't doubt its lubing properties but won't the meths solvent sting a
    bit?

  9. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Steve
That is possibly the most disturbing sentence I have ever read on UKRM.

    Well done.

hah. You'll need one of those old BMW combos that have a spade

Well, I suppose if the material got harder, it might.

There are companies offering kits to polish bare polycarbonate so it appears
    to be possible

I would expect so, but a 5g tube is going to polish about 20square cm IMHO.

Want me to send some over (at some indeterminate point of the future)

    Or use toothpaste (apparently)

After giving it a going over with a grey ScotchBrite pad, yeah, but it's one
light coat and a heavier coat once the first coat has flashed off. (About 15
minutes airdrying at average room temp). Do be too quick to throw the 2nd
coat on, wait that 15 minutes. Don't for fucks sake drop one coat on and
leave it til the following day either. 15 minutes between coats and you can
use three coats if you want.
Warm soapy water and that grey (note, I said "grey" twice and for good
reason) ScotchBrite pad will see everything that needs removing, removed.

Very interethting.. I believe I'll investigate that shit further.

I must say, however, that the bloke in the picture using a buffer seems to
have completely by-passed the bit in the instructions on "How to use a
    polishing mop"
