windshield repair

Discussion in 'Bay Area Bikers' started by Gustav Johansen, Sep 15, 2005.

  1. I've got a crack starting to migrate out of one of the mounting holes in my
plastic windshield. Its a fairly tall shield on a BMW but the crack is low.
Does anyone have any experience with fixing these?

You can probably stop the propogation by drilling a small hole at the
end of where the crack is now. Use a sharp drill.

The windscreen is probably plexiglass (poly methyl-methacrylate) which
has useful optical properties. TAP Plastics will have adhesives that
partially dissolve this and allow you to fuse the crack together, but
the stresses that are being relieved by formation of the crack will
still be there, ready to crack it again.
