This is the most comprehensive and widespread set of warnings I've ever
    seen:

    http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_warnings.html

Not to mention the duration. I realise that the Met Office comes in
for a lot of stick, some of it deserved, but they've been bang on for
the past couple of weeks, so I don't doubt this lot - with the caveat
that they're covering their arses a bit, particularly with running into
next week, but they're pretty sure that something icy this way cometh.

Cold fingers and toes today. I only had to last a couple of hours, so
didn't go for the full on winter kit.
I might double up on the gloves next time, as the bar muffs are still
    on the FJ12.

It's tucked up in the garage now, I don't see any more riding until
the end of Feb for me ...

    Top respect to the Nordkappers.

    Paul.

I suppose that means it'll snow this weekend when we're stopping in
the shit hole known as Shap Wells.

Cripes! We are due to head for Durham by train on Saturday for a wedding
(on Monday) and I know that the bride's parents are intending to drive
up there from Her Majesty's South.

Interestingly Metcheck's forecast isn't so doom laden.

Oh well, we'll review the situation on Saturday morning.

I look forward to 25cm of snow. Don't think it's ever dropped that
much in 1 night round here.

Typical. I now own two slightly off road bikes and one is out of action
and the other is 20 miles away.
6" of snow here and still going....
I wonder if the xt is ready....................?

Around 3 inches here so far and still falling. Some people are clueless
about driving, I watched a Discovery spin into a wall for no apparent
reason, he must have dabbed the brakes.

on a bike? FFS, no. It took me 3-4 minutes to defrost the windows on
the RX earlier to get it drivable.

Some fantastically shitty driving to be seen on the roads at the
moment, which is another reason not to be out on a bike.

    /bad form

    It was :)
But the tyres that are on it are useless in 8" of powdery snow.
Haven't seen this much snow at low level in these parts since I was a
    kid.

Biggest issue seems to be people reacting at the last moment. They're so
busy just trying to drive, they don't bother indicating or checking
    their mirrors.

So in the interest of self-preservation (and having a jar or two after
work), I opted for the tube.

yeah, that's about the size of it.

but it still makes it feel "interesting".

and, as of within the last 20 minutes:

    http://picasaweb.google.com/darsyx/Desktop#5552013455447002274

    FFS.

I've ridden in worse, but it'd not be something I'd term "fun".

Because they only look 2 feet in front of their own car (if that much). No
way they'll look in mirrors or indicate, coz that would require a level of
    competence they lack.
I opted for the house and didn't bother leaving it.

You can thank global warming for that.
