This seems like a very good thing in some ways.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4888946.stm
The world is likely to suffer a temperature rise of more than 3C, the
    government's chief scientist warned.

Nat Geographic ran an interesting and fairly convincing article recently
suggesting GW would be a good thing. Charting the Globe it suggested
that said 3C rise would promote much higher levels of plant growth in
many areas, improving climate stability and substantially increasing
    food production.

    This:
"That would put up to 400 million people worldwide at risk of hunger,
said Professor Sir David King in a report based on computer predictions.
    "
refers largely to areas already poor in agricultural production and NG
suggested that the problem was one of global distribution and not
    production.

NG did forget to mention the benefits to BOSM and EOSM however I'm sure
    it was just an oversight

Typical journos' innit? Can't be arsed to research, as long as they've got
    enough words for the article...

According to the report the opposite will happen though it doesn't
explain their reasons for believing that in the news story.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4888946.stm

"The government report says a 3C rise would cause a drop worldwide of
between 20 and 400 million tonnes in cereal crops and put about 400
million more people at risk of hunger."

That figure of between 20 and 400 million tonnes is so imprecise what
possible validity can it have? Sounds like highly unscientific
    scare-mongering to me.

Hog came up with the following;:
Trouble is with GW, that most tree-huggers are blaming 4x4's and 'good'
stuff that we all use, fossil fuesl and generally mankind, but this doesn't
explain why Mars appears to also be warming up and experiencing a reduction
in size of it's polar caps ...

**** sake. If everyone would just invest in a decent sleeping bag, they too
would know the heat of a luxurious bed.

There is no great mystery I suspect. The SOHO project detailing the sun
since 1995 has been watching the long term cycle of its internal energy
generation and it is growing towards the peak of a 50 (IIRC) year
process. I think a lot of the environmental lobby are closet luddites.

Round them up, cut off *their* homes from electrical/water/sewage grids,
refuse them land or cellular telephones or internet access. Take away
their vehicles and driving licences, ban them from flying.

Re-visit in 36 months time and ask if they still think its such a good
    fucking idea.

Well, Global Warming isn't this week. It's something that's been being
discussed for an awful long time; I remember reading a book called "The
Doomsday Book" by Gordon Rattray Taylor which refers to the threat of
Global Warming when I was about 13 (it was published in '72.)

MRSA is an issue for those unfortunate enough to be caught by it.

SARS was a problem in SE Asia.

    etc.

Nope I listened to a long and interesting R4 program where one of the
scientists (female) described the results and inferences. It may not have
been SOHO come to think of it. They were working in magnetic and x-ray IIRC.
They were not talking about sunspot activity but on internal activity, the
magnetic fields, internal layers and so on.

So do you believe in the environmental agenda, or rather do you support it.
