Several on the A465 west of Abergavenny, either side of an ANPR van. 2
bikes and a car on the east side of the van and 3 cars to the west side.

Repeated at several other non-motorway locations throughout the S Wales
    force area.

Well, it is the main road from Aber back into the valleys. This particular
unit has been targetting cars without tax and insurance. They have,
according to their own press releases, been quite succesful. The detection
of an illegal vehicle has sometimes led to them stumbling on someone with
an outstanding warrant. I see this as an intelligent use of the technology
as it uses existing databases and does not really infringe on law abiding
    motorists' civil liberties.

I've seen a similar unit working on the M4 between Swindon and Bristol on a
Friday evening. Presumably on the assumption that loads of scrotes in dodgy
cars are making their way from Swindon to Bristol for the weekend.

The happy consequence of this is that S Wales traffic cops use their man
hours operating these units. Meanwhile, the minor A roads and B roads are
    left alone.

    Moi? Not at all.

Anyway, the way my luck has been, the past 10 days, I'm a cert for a
    tug.

    Now you are sounding irrational.
I'm getting a bit fucked off with the increasing number of people I know
who have been involved in traffic incidents with uninsured drivers. These
people, at best, lose a no claims bonus on their own insurance.

You want to use a moody plate. Go ahead but accept the risk that you may be
detected. Just because you are Bear, you do not have a right to get away
    with it.

Now, take a while to think about it. How would you resolve the issue of
    uninsured cunts on the roads?

So, you have a man sat in a car with a radio. Asks controller to do a
PNC on a car. They did this in The Bill in the 80s. Now, you have a
digital camera connected via some software to the same database. apart
from the data processing time, where is the difference?
    See above
    See above
Of course. The fewer that get away with it the better, IMV.
I disagree as far as the issue of detecting uninsured drivers is
    concerned.

Of course ANPR can be used for more sinister applications but so can my
use of the internet. I get more uptight about cunts using my personal
information to bombard me with marketing bollocks than I do about the
    police snooping on my activities.
Ah, when you run out of anything useful to say, have a dig at the
    afflicted.

Haha, I laugh at your metanarrative and suggest that the world will become

Is this attitude specific to the Home Office, traffic police or government
    en masse?

Only if the latter, you've have held remarkable counsel over recent months
    of publicly funded employment.

  14. I've seen a couple in Swindon & Wilts. Always on dual-carriageways or
motorways and almost always either on or after either roadworks or
    post-changes in speed limit[1].

    Phil.

[1] My first speeding offence - limit came down from 50 to 40 and on
the first day they had every spare copper in Swindon on that particular
bit of road with 4 guys with hairdryers. They did a roaring trade.

    Champ says...
We still have uniformed Police officers doing hand held and van based
speed trapping here in Bedfordshire. I saw one on Barkers Lane only last
week - it's a good job I was on the SpazzTrakka as it struggles to hit
30mph between the roundabout and where the speedtrap was sited.

There was a uniformed laser trap on the A4 just west of the Avebury
roundabout last summer. I know it was uniformed as I pulled over to
ask directions having missed the clear signage at the roundabout.
Don't know why they were bothering really - every car for a mile
either side looked like it had a strobe strapped to the front and by
their own admission they'd not caught anyone all evening.

Very shoddy. They haven't even replaced the Gatso on the A38 between
Twigworth and Norton which mysteriously burst into flames about 14 months
ago. The grass has recovered nicely though.

Oh, but I did. Or at least before they photographed me. Just not quite
soon enough to get to speeds they approved of.

Still, all water under the bridge.
