I'd just accelerated to 80km/h on my way to 100 and a mad roo hopped
out of the bush and head butted me on the foot. I'm OK, bikes OK, but
I bet the roo has a headache.

In 1974, when Noosa Heads was still a worthwhile camping destination,
I was riding between the Bruce Highway and Noosa when I spotted A roo
sitting on the side of the road. So I slowed right down and was going
past it at about 10km/h when the stupid thidg hopped into the bike at
about the rear wheel. Nearly knocked me off. They're not very bright
    animals...

Reminds me of a few years ago on the Bruce Hwy when both lanes were
stopped for roadwork. A big roo thought this was a good opportunity to
cross the highway. It decided to get onto the highway in the other
lane opposite to mine. As luck would have it, it was that lane's turn
to move which is what it did. The poor Roo panicked when it saw the
cars coming toward it, and smashed full tilt into the rear door of my
Jeep. Stunned, it fell back right under the wheels of a 4WD, and died
instantly. I eventually spent more than $1000 on repairs.
After many years of bush driving, I can honestly say that the only roo
damage I have ever received was due to the roo hitting me, not the
    opposite.

My bike has a few battle scars on the right hand side panel from where a
roo hopped into the side of it a few months back. I was only tootling
along slowly. I had the rising sun in my eyes. The roo didn't survive
long enough to give his excuse. I call it 60-40 in my favour.

Goanas are hardy creatures. I only got his tail though. Glad I
missed the wombat (my first real emergency braking exercise. On the
dirt too. BTH warned me about the 'roos near the unaugural, but not
the wombats). And I felt both legs of the 'roo I ran over just after
he slipped over in the Grampians. 'roos don't have good traction on
the tarmac (a bit like the giant roo that fell over trying to avoid my
bicycle one day at the observatory. He had better reactions than I
    did).
The ute at my previous job (the observatory again - one of the
afternoon techs lost count at 150 by the side of the road on his way
home from work one night) had a dent in the back of it. Yes, it was
stationary at the time the 'roo hopped into it.

Really? I thought I said "beware of wildlife on the dirt road after
    dark"?

Here's where saving all of my email comes in handy :) (it's a pain
when you change email systems and technologies every couple of decades
    though)

Be especially cautious if you're arriving late, as there are almost
always kangaroos on Redacted Rd after dark. In particular on the
dirt section, near the creek crossings

Good thing I was expecting the flighty little bastards anyway :)

I see the problem. He was talking about some other road. I've been
down that road quite a few times and it's been rocky, sandy, gravelly,
chalky, dusty, corrugated and potholed.... but never dirt.

You try to offer something for everyone, but there's just no pleasing
    some people.

I made the directions I sent you as cryptic and misleading as
possible, and yet you STILL showed up! Sometimes I think you just
    can't take a hint! :)
