I didn't get the ACMN letter of the issue... again.
But this time Wootton added some stuff into my letter to change the
meaning of it. Does he do this often?

I suppose I don't mind the editing bit, as long as I get the TeeShirt.
Boris should give Wootton's bike a bit of a kick in the traffic, kind of
    "edit" his riding style.

Yeah I saw a couple of aus.motians' names in the latest issue.
(But I haven't read it yet.... I think gNatalie stole it!)

  4. What sort of editing? Removing stuff, or adding more? Write and complain.
Might get the free T out of it! (Suggest he wear the testicle clamp for a
    while as a punishment.)

Doubt it. It's the editors job to edit, and there'll probably be a disclaimer
on the letters page which says they may edit your letter to fit it in or some
    such thing.

  8. Edit and remove text yes, but it's a bit rude to edit and add text is a bit
    rude.

True.. but it happens elsewhere.. I knew a prolific letter writer to the
Sunday Age (no, not Martin Taylor) who had one published letter altered so
much by the editor that he appeared to be stating a PoV which was completely
at odds with the PoV in his unedited letter.

Editing is one thing. Adding words that change the context is another.

My one and only contribution to REVs years ago got exactly that treatment -
a reader could have easily believed I was taking to opposite view.

Oddly, I think Wooton was editor at the time if memory serves...

Actually, the editing of a piece to make it read the very opposite in
POV was one of the first class assignments when I did a journalist
course...... _many_ years ago now. :)
