  3. Been around for a while now.
I would, especially given that they now accept CC's. In fact, I did
before, circa 2001. Medion is a somewhat respected brand in Europe and
    has a reasonable customer service.

Can't be worse than my present desktop, running a 2GHz Celery...

I'm not a gamer, so That's not an issue, however, I'm going to be
doing stuff to photos, so half-decent will help.
I'm wary, for some reason, about overclocked processors, but I'll bear
that in mind and compare with offerings from the likes of Novatech,
etc. Handy thing is that Scan is about 6 miles up the road...

    That's why I picked Scan.

To be fair I'd actually look at something with an AMD AthlonII 250
chip in it, as it'll be plenty fast but also AMD don't go changing
their chip socket every new generation so the board will support newer
and better chips as the prices drop.. I#d also go for a machine with
DDR3 RAM, as DDR2 is now getting stupidly expensive as it's phased
    out.

But you'll probably spend another £100 doing the above.

Overclocking on the later generation Intel stuff really isn't an
issue. I've been running a 2.6Ghz Quad core Q6600 chip at 3.3 Ghz for
over a year now.. stable as you like and it doesn't ever go above 55c,
which is a huge safety margin as intel rate them to 71c.

    Bored now.

Nope, I'd avoid it. CPU and graphics are weak. I think all the
cost/value is in the touch screen.

All in one type stuff will make you cry more when you want to upgrade
internals or when it goes wrong.

    [snip computer spec. stuff]

Right, I didn't understand much of that, so you seem like you know
"stuff" about computers. Ergo, what's the best £500 laptop?
