got an opportunity to grab mid 80's classic rg500 which has to be pretty
exceptional...hard to say what they bring since I don't see many in the
    trader any more.

Redbook is somewhat irrelevant for excpetional examples as in this case
    - more of a collectors item I spose. (16,000km kms still wearing the
orig. michelins that it left the factory with!)
    Trade In
    $1,900 - $2,200

    Private Sale
    $2,900 - $3,400

    Price When New
    $5,795

I see one in the trader for $5k rebuilt, then another not so good for
$2k - I remember good ones going for $5k years ago....

They are not really a collectable thing, even with low klms on they
    are not 'special'....

If you want $5k then advertise for $5k...

I know someone currently selling one of these.
It's a nice clean bike with not much wrong with it other than the broken
crank sticking out through the hole in the lower engine casing.............

Annoyingly typical of the RG :)

Hammo will give you $700 for it.

    I'm his official proxy bidder.

actually I'm buying not selling...just wondering whether it'd be as much
fun (or dangerous) as I remember circa 1989. Maybe get a str dampner for
this one. Dunno just not excited about what else I can get for $5k - at
least it'd be somewhat unique and form of homage to the range of
strokers I went thru while at Uni (RD & LC, RG)

At the end of the day, enless you spend the earth modifying the hell out of
the engine and shoehorning it into an RS250 chassis it's going to be slower
than an old r6, much worse handling than old r6 with the general
reliability of a hand grenade with the pin loose.

If you want a sentimental money pit of a toy, then buy the RG!!
(if you want a second bike for spare parts - I know where you can find one
    :)

    Cheers,

Kind of misses the point for me...I certainly hold no interest in
getting an unremarkable UJM 4 cyl - I've tuned/worked on RGs, got spares
and the workshop manual so it's an obvious choice for me. Merely
wondering what the interest in these bikes is like these days. Though I
can appreciate the view "why bother?"...because it interests me and it's
different - plenty reason for me.

And please let me know of the one for spares.

    Mark.
