Would it work?

  1. I just had a practice go at a swiss roll in preparation for a full on
attempt at a yule log this year and for my first ever go the comment
from My Baby and current stud of "Is there more?" was reassuring enough
but sitting here thinking about it I could see a better idea in a
battenburg made out of satsuma madeira cake with a hint of citrus in the
cream and a dark chocolate with seville marmalade orange running through
it. A laminated bit of 3 inch square rather than a log and a wholly
different texture. What does the panel think?

Sounds utterly disgusting - you shouldn't even consider tasting such an
abomination! Best thing would be to offer it round UKRM and let us take all
    the risks.

My postal address follows via email...

  3. It does doesn't it but I am rather taken with the modern twist on an
older theme though I must admit.
Well of course I would, these things are made specifically for my
    delight.

Probably best not as it goes, previous history and all that.

I think Your Baby should dump the current stud and give me a proper
    audition for the post.

  5. I was talking to her the other day about him and she remarked that in
the list of his good points was "youthful stamina."

  7. There's no law that says a log has to be round is there? Brush a fork
through the brown icing and stick some holly and berries on it and maybe
the addition of a robin. You could always use a Legoman with a chainsaw
    to excuse the boxy shape.

  10. It is not without it problems, getting the chocolate to stick
satisfactorily without marzipan is one but I was thinking along the
lines of course ground almonds in Jersey cream, which would be like
lumpy glue and the contrast between the yellow of the Jersey cream and
the white of the other stuff would add a visual element to it which
    would not be wasted.

  11. Precisely and given our modern way of living who knows what a log looks
like these days? So a plank, or piece of planed timber, is much more
    appropriate.

I like this. It conjures up images.
