We've got an irradiation facility here at Brunel; you could save the
cost of travelling to Russia.

One of my colleagues just irradiated a Hall probe magnetic element
to 300 Gy; it was said that about 10 gray was fatal to humans[1]. This
was just a test, not destructive; The Professor said that he'd irradiated
certain epoxies to multi-mega-Gy -- many other materials (plastic, etc)
fall to dust long before that.

Just wear a dosimeter. I've probably taken more dose helping put
the main O-ring seal back in place at the TRIUMF cyclotron, as long as
you don't do anything silly. But don't eat anything grown nearby, and take
your iodine pills.
