Nicked off the MCN website: Cutaway of a S1000RR head, showing exposed valves and cams. Astounding at full RPM. -- Gavin. GSXR600K1 Twitter: http://twitter.com/gavin_wilby Blog: http://www.stoof.co.uk
I recognise that sound. For the first 30 seconds or so, it sounds just like my 2.5DI Transit on a fast idle.
It's a lot to ask from a little metal spring. Don't F1 cars use some alternative (pneumatic) system now.
I'm not impressed by those tiny bits of metal going up and down. Now looking at the pistons on the end of the conrods, that's impressive. They're changing direction twice each crank rotation, so at At 10K rpm that's 20,000 times a minute, which'll be 20000/60 = 333 times per second. They're relatively big chunks of metal too. Oh, and the reciprocating mass and acceleration G force is pretty impressive too, but the equations are a bit mind bending for this time of night .. Paul.

Shan't. They're in me engine, innit. I don't need to see them to know they're 'doing their stuff' Paul.
