WRBs North of MEL?

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Martin Taylor, Jun 24, 2005.

  1. Some time ago, someone posted a link to a road somewhere north of
Melbourne that had WRBs that appeared to be lining the road's sealed
edge. I think it might've been around Kinglake or similar.

If anyone here knows the road that I'm talking about, or indeed has a
photo of it or a link, could you please let me know?

    Thanks

There's plenty east of Melbourne too, less than 3m[1] from the
right-hand lane. Take a blat up the Princes Highway some time ...

[1] There's a bit of bitumen almost the width of a car alongside the
right-hand lane, and then the WRB almost hard up against it.

From memory the Kinglake - St Andrews Rd has a WRB up against the edge of
    the lane.

personally...if you hit that WRB you deserve it...

whats worse, that WRB of the drop and trees the other side of it?

Don't have a link... but the Calder Highway just south of Bendigo has
just had a shit load of the stuff installed.

There was a protest ride last weekend.

What I'm looking for is a photo of a road with the WRBs right up against
the road edge, which gives no room for stopping, without being fully on
the road still, and hence no room for error if you run wide or are
    forced to run wide.

I thought that the road was near Kinglake somewhere. I recall someone
posting it here a few years back.

They actually widened the road there a bit to allow room for the WRB. The
edge of the road (very steep drop into oblivion) used to be nearer to the road
    than the WRB is now.

You'd need to be going *pretty fast* to run wide just there, It's on a
straightish stretch. and in the absence of the WRB oyu'd be in shitloads
    of trouble. Big drop.

It's not up against the roadside it's agains a fairly steep drop on a
    straight stretch of road.
You would have to be terribly unlucky or doing something stupid to hit
that barrier and then you may have some small chance of surviving
compared to zero if you go over that edge.
    It's on the kinglake road.

St. Andrews -> Kinglake road, not far from Kinglake. Been there for ages.

Nice ride anyway. As Moike said, it's a long way down, so the WRB is
probably no worse than the alternative.

  18. Still, I'd rather have a fleeting glance along an armco or concrete barrier.
Less chance of getting my legs ripped of or being caught up and catapulted
    over.

Better still get off ya arse and do some riding and have a look for your

coming traffic then again if ya do the right thing there is no trouble is
    there????
