Woohoo, the boss has approved an upgrade so I'm in the market for a new
    bike.
With a budget of around $8k the pick is a CBR600F4i, but that may be
slightly out of reach. Will settle for a ZX6R or other Jap600
If anyone knows of any good bikes, let me know.

This means the GPX is on the market.
88 GPX 250 import (Dual front discs)
Black with red pinstripe and wheels.
Regular servicing but minor cosmetic damage.
Recently had chain, sprocket, tyres, and brakes replaced
Good reliable bike for learner or commuter.
    Rego to Jan 06.

Starting price $2000 but will bend to market forces.
Located on Syd Nthn Beaches (Brookvale)

    $8 should get you a year-old SV650, too. $10 will get a new one,
    ride-away.

  4. I know of a very sweet ZX7R complete with extra race fairings, trick
bits, ohlins dampener, complete extra set of rims, some half used slicks
and is currently registered and being used on the road.

Asking $8000 but may go lower.

Email me for details if your interested.

Harry Borbag is of the opinion:
One lady owner, only rode it to Church on sundays...

Yeah looked at the SV650. Looks good on paper, practical and all that, makes
sense, but when does sensibility play a part in vehicle purchasing?

The ZX7R seems a lot different to the 6. I sat on a ZX7R in the shop and it
just felt wrong compared to the 6. I take it there's bit more difference
    than just a bigger engine?

  11. Completely different bike I think. Right down to the chassis etc.

IK would know more - hes the resident Kawasaki nutter.

Not that I need to be to tell you that the ZX-7R shares little
with_any_model of ZX-6R beyond the lettering on the tank.

Outside 3rd-party-supplied peripherals like mirrors, pegs, levers etc,
if you went looking for common parts between the two bikes, you'd
probably not find much apart from, say, valve retainers.

  14. And shims too, I hear - they tell me Kawasaki valve shims are _all_ the
same (and they work well as closer shim measuring tools for 4 valve
    Ducatis)

Then how do you adjust clearances with them?

  16. You've got to carefully grind down the valve stems...

Been there done that. Recommended method on early 50's Ford Prefects.

How hard do you have to ride in order to 'thrash' a bike. Just as a casual
armchair motorsport expert I'd reckon that in top level racing, i.e. MotoGP,
Superbikes, F1, V8 Supercars, etc, the ratio of bike engine failures would be
much lower than car engine failures. If the top riders can't detonate their
bike engines, what hope do the rest of us have of doing that on our bikes?
The fact that the F1 rules for 2005 state that an engine must last 2 races
    probably highlights the difference.
