If "that problem" is the indicators/horn (instead of the wordless awe) I
had the double problem where the horn (and starter-button) on the XJ were
where the BeeEm's indicators were so I was beeping every time I switched
    back too!!
gNatalie used to find it a great source of amusement on our morning
    commutes.

Doncha' know the new "here" is 20% more proto-physical than the shithouse
old "here"... (Which is soooo outdated now that it may as well be called
    "there"!!)

I'm not sure I agree with that logic, Richard.

I think that most "average" track day riders, as opposed to the full-on
racers, have a lap-time that they are comfortable with, and that time is
fairly consistant over a range of bikes.

On the other hand, unless they are clockwatching, it's the "feel" that
    will dictate things.

Given, say, a Kawk MachIII which is a bike capable of some speed, but
rather infamous in the handling dept, compared to say a CBR600, I reckon
most ride day punters would go a lot slower on the Kwak!

And feel like they were going fast...

Hey! They still seem to come up with a different paint job for the
ZZR250 every year or two! ;-)

  7. I was thinking about this over the weekend, went for a ride both days
(in the afternoon, I don't "do" mornings). I know what GS and Clem
mean about the UJMs, but I think from my perspective I still live in a
state where I can get away with travelling at warp speed [1] on
certain roads (ie, any road that heads east out of Hobart :).
If I couldn't do that, then the inline fours would maybe be less
appealing to me. Dunno. Never really tried to analyse it before like
    that.

    Cheers

[1] This is pure fiction folks. I deny it totally.

Yeah, same thing between VTR250 and R100GS ...

Ahh yeh.... a r1100s at full throttle - thats what smee? - redlined at
    1500rpm - I think a John Deere will about 1800 rpm ;)

  12. (Assuming this is Wayne we're talking about)

A friend of mine rode it when it was running only 4 pounds of boost. He
said "It'll wheelie off the throttle in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, it just slips
the clutch in 4th...". It'll run more boost than that now, but back then
its was running a hot-glue-gunned-together airbox which'd blow itself
apart at 6lbs... It gets 180rwhp @ 6lbs boost apparently...

Hmmm, not sure i agree with that.

    My corner pace increased when i changed from a 99 ZX6R to a '03 ZX6R...
Can't say i improved, by myself, that dramatically in a manner of weeks.
    Must be the bike then.

Surprisingly large improvement in the 600s in the last 4-5 years. Especially
wrt suspension design and setup. They are wonderful to ride for anyone with
    even a modicum of ability.

I can't agree that they are boring either (well not my ZX6R anyway).

  20. Yeah but there's people who want hi-po cruisers and there's people who want

BUT! by the time you put a 120 cube S&S with Revtech 4V heads etc. PM or
jap brakes, and a decent frame together, you have a seriously Hi-Per cruiser

Still HD 'derived', in that it has a 45 deg air cooled twin, but not at
    all HD componented

I recently rode one good for somewhat (140K) inxs of said speed limit,
absolutely no way any jap 'cruiser' would get anywhere near it!

The only point of dissent is the $50000 price tag!

Any jap cruiser will deliver the long term performance (how often do you
want 240Kmh on the road?, how often do you want it in the shop? how much
have you really got to spend?) but will never match the horn inducing
    clit stimulating HD 'rolling thunder'

Mined yew, that same 'rolling thunder' is an absolute PITA when you have
to ride it more than 200Km/day...its LOUD, shakes like all hell broke
lose, and requires an excess of 'attitude' just to keep it on the road.

Meh...best to borrow one every so often!
