LOL... in what way exactly. So a bit is better because it is different?
Less cylinders = more character ?? giggle.
I would have thought that the SV650 is nothing but a rip-off of a certain
    Italian manufacturer.
    Yes... right....what do you ride?

Good to see your inline 4 bias is shining through there Richard.
Also good to see your "unblinkered" world view about things that are
    different to you is unchanged.
Since when has any twin been boring?????????????????

  8. Yeah, and the truth is that most people who don't like the SV won't like
    the Monster either.

Inlne 4s and v twins _are_ different. People ride my bike and ask
"Where's the top end rush? It revs up but then just runs out of breath!"
whereas I ride their inline 4's and ask "Where's the bottom end? Sure it
goes nicely at 9000rpm, but it doesn't go at all until 6!"

But that doesn't make my bike "better" or their bike "worse", its just
what you're used to and what you prefer - some prefer blondes, some
    prefer brunettes...

(and I came _so_ close to refraining from making the "inline 4's are
    poofter bikes" joke! ;-)

  10. I agree--the SV is almost a clone of the Cagiva Raptor.
When will the Japs learn to think for themselves?

  11. And in one of those nice examples of syncronicity, someone elsewhere
    just pointed me at this:

    http://www.cycleworld.com/index.cfm?siteaction=OnlineUpdate&id=46

    "Inline-Four vs. V-Twin"

(which isn't completely sane, it says "What's more, Twins have more
frictional losses in the valve train, thanks to needing two sets of
slightly larger cams, two cam chains, stiffer springs pushing on larger,
heavier valves moving through more lift and, of course, all the bearings
necessary to support all the extra hardware." right aboue a picture of a
Ducati 999 motor which doesn't have "stiffer springs" at all...)

got to worry about this "two camchains" business too.

And I bet your average CBR600 has more lift than my twins!

A bit of some things is better than nothing of some other things
    Fewer cylinders, not less cylinders
    You would have...until what?
When you've been around a while, you might come to the realisation that more
than two cylinders is wasteful, and fairings are just.....gay.

Faark; the Japs have been making 4cyl UMs for 35 years and while they were
probably exciting in 1970 most of us are well-and truly over them in 2005!
Shit; even the ubiquitous liquid-cooled, multivalve, alloy-beam-framed,
full-fairinged sportsbike is 20-odd years old and they've long since run
out of "differnet" ways to paint them..
Suzuki should be applauded for producing the pretty little SV whether it's
a copy or not. (Have the Japs ever made ANYTHING original?)

I'm obviously a very different rider to you because I always pick the
interesting lumpy-engined 60hp bike over the
    bland-as-white-bread-with-the-crusts-cut-off, electric-motor-smooth
    120/140/160/180hp bike.

Isn't it funny that the Japs finally realised after 20 years of
"correcting" Harley Davidson's engineering (with balanced designs, DOHC,
liquid-cooling, free-revving engines etc) that they were wrong and they've
now produced some attractive big simple cruisers that seem to be selling
    well.
Their Ducati copies are very popular so maybe now they'll get adventurous
and produce "proper" Laverda (triple), 'Guzzi & BMW copies too!
    Clem
(And yes I'm aware that the Laverda triple was based on the Laverda twin
which was a rip-off of the Honda CB450)

    The CB175 wasn't a real standout!
    Clem
(And I haven't ridden an R65 but at the risk of getting Gary Woodman grumpy
at me I'd probably nominate it too)
