you ever balanced the carbs ? Is that 'Special tool' really needed ? My engine is the 900F version. 1985. Is it needed for that version ? That will be a bikini fairing job then ? Mine is a '92 900F jobbie never done the balance myself , it gets done at the service, or £15 on the rare occasions I need it doing as a one off.

So, you have an engine and you tune it and balance the carbs. Are you ever going to attach it to he rest of the bike ? My tame mechanic has a stock of them. He just slides them in when required. Why are you making life hard for yourself ?
