.... do they put in windscreen de-icer, these days?

    Smells like boiled cat piss!

Bring back the solvent filled version. Bollocks to the sniffers!

The stuff I get from Screwfix seems nice and solventy <inhales deeply>
mmm... permanent markers. Their marketing policy seems designed to
catch out the numerically challenged though. Special offer on the
tills, £2.99 for 2 litres, in the catalogue £4.88 for 5 litres

I noticed that this very morning!

The remainder got poured over the headlights and I shall refill it with
    cheap whisky.

Dunno, never use it any more.

Just get in car, turn on engine and AC.
Get scraper and scrape for a few mins.
Get back in warm car with clear screen and drive away.

That's my usual method, but this was the kind of clear ice that seems
to weld itself to the windscreen, which is why the deicer was used.

Pfah!. Press button while getting dressed. Get in nice warm de-iced
    car. Switch engine on. Drive.

One of the options we were both keen on on the R36. Uses an extra
battery, some sort of electrickery, plus (I think) a tiny bit of
petrol to get it going. Pre-heats the whole car, starting with the
    windscreen blowers.

Dead good on these icy mornings, it is. I only need to use the heated
windscreen if I don't remember early enough.

I just setup the time i want the pre-heater to come on or press the
remote button & hey presto a nice warm car with no ice ;)

    that sounds remarkably civilised.

De-icing cars is rarely an issue for me, as I don't drive to work.

It's brilliant, on mine you can set it up to either provide heat or a/c
air, setup on the screen, or just plipped with the plipper, with heated
seats & a heated steering wheel makes a very nice morning treat, instead
    of freezing your bollocks off.

It has a little diesel heater engine thingy. Superb it is.

Commuting to work is so 2002.

Civilized is stepping from the kitchen to the garage,
getting into the car, pressing a button to open the garage door,
starting the car and driving out....

This morning's commute to work was about 20 feet from bed to the sofa.
If the cleaner wasn't due today I doubt I would have bothered with the
    commuting bit at all.

    Nonsense.

Civilised is waking in a leisurely fashion around 8:30, enjoying a cup
of tea whilst watching a bit of BBC News, then proceeding to the study
at five minutes to nine, to start work for the day.

    It is.

You can set it on a timer as well, to come on for, say, half an hour
around about the time you'll be planning to finish skiing, then get
back to the car park where it's all ready to go, and watch all the
other buggers brushing the 15cm of fresh snow off ;-)

Want. My van's been freezing in the morning lately, so I've been wearing
gloves and a beanie. I look like a bloody bricky when driving it.

what makes you think you don't look like a bricky when driving a van
    *without* gloves and a beanie?
