    well,

    a) he's not dead

    b) he's an 18 year old from Newcastle, so he's probably got at least 2
or 3 northern slags pregnant already, ruling him out for Darwin Award
    nomination.

Which is a bit of a shame.
So he might as well be dead.
He's from Newcastle, he won't know what a woman's for. A sheep or two OTOH.

Don't know about other people but I've always been of a mind, as early as
the age of 8, when looking at power cable, if I can't clearly see both ends:
    Extreme Caution.

I can think of 4 occasions when this has been sage. Two of them resulting in
a bit of an arm "rattle" with systems that should have been disconnected
(checking with a finger joint). It's a *really* horrible sensation you never
forget. So I expect this is pretty common experience. I also expect KW
    class shocks are deeply unpleasant.

Good grounding for troubleshooting problems in a 250MW generation plant.

What lineside equipment runs at 11,000v?

    Safety Nazi.

I've had several 25KV shocks from CDI systems.

    Never harmed me (much)

    Yeah right

Watford and Harrow were plunged into darkness a couple of months ago.
Unfortunately I don't think that the perpetrators died AND my genny ran
    out of petrol mid evening

Apparently, electrocution is the worst kind of injury if you survive, as it
tends to **** up things that don't always appear obviously fucked.

Whatever, being shit scared of electrickery, it's not something I put myself
    in a position to check.

Not that you'd need hundreds of amps. People have been killed by testing out
a PP3 battery on their tongues. I didn't believe that at first, but I've
read about it being for real a few times now, so maybe it is.

I won't be testing it myself, anyway.

I find that pretty hard to believe as the current only takes a short
path across your tongue. I've done it loads of times.

If the current goes through your heart, eg one hand to the other, then
it can only take a few mA to stop it.

Hence the practice of working on live stuff with one hand in your pocket
    being a Good Idea.

At the TV lab of the engineering school we had some fun with people who
touched the inadequate part of CRT's :)

400V capacitors left in chairs were fun too.

I think we were a bunch of late teen bastards.

    Erm, yes.

I suppose, thinking about it, that there's an obvious answer, but
personally I'd never have thought of testing a battery by putting it
on my tongue. Unless you can develop the required sensitivity to
accurately guage the voltage available, of course.
