For those who live near Brizzul there is a nice farm shop near Portbury
    which sells homemade venison sausages.

Yummy. Who needs pig when you can eat bambi.

Agreed on that one, served with smoked salmon instead of ham is also
    rather lovely.
Staying at large hotel chains in the US I notice that they like to
serve your Eggs Ben, General Fry Up, Omlette, etc with a generous
portion of fresh fruit on the same plate which I find a bit weird,
mopping up your tom sauce and egg yolks with a strawberry or chunk of
    pineapple just isn't right.
Soda Bread toast is also rather nice I find.
Favourite so far was a seafood omlette for brekkie at the Fairmont in
San Jose, stuffed full of crab with a seafood sauce, done to
    perfection. Drool.....

Indeed. Living with a veggie, I've cut down on eating meat a fair bit,
but the one thing I really won't give up is proper, decent sausages.

No, they're thoroughly mediocre. The best sossidges that Waitrose stock
are the "Black Farmer" ones, but even they're very second-rate compared
to ones from a _good_ butcher's shop.

    <shrug>
Tastes vary, but the amount of shrinkage when cooked is a reasonably
quantitative guide to quality. Those - admittedly, not the chipolatas,
since they're sausages for children, but the proper sausage-sized
sausages - absolutely piss fat out, and end up half the size they started.

I don't want to see my arse and your sausage mentioned in the same
    thread, let alone post.

The best sausages are the ones Pip and Elly get from a local Butcher,
called Barton Royals or something like that.

When I was working for the Cumbrian company I'd sometimes stop off at a
Farmers shop on the outskirts of Penrith and buy this huge coil of
Cumberland sausage for them. That was quite nice too.

  14. Our local proper butcher (Crumps in Wootten Bassett) does really really
really good sausages of many varieties. The most popular is their
Bassett Banger - which is very very edible.

The ones we get in Sainsburys are the Debbie & Andrews - very nice.
Especially in Toad in the Hole where the spicyness of the sausage helps
give the batter a nice spicy edge.

Most bacon consumed in England is back bacon and it's more like ham
    than American bacon.

When Americans buy that kind of bacon, it's labelled as "Canadian
    bacon".

American bacon is belly bacon and has streaks of fat, so it's fried to
a crisp (or beyond) to get rid of all the grease.

If you want American bacon cooked to less than a crisp, eat at a
    breakfast buffet.

Breakfast buffets (especially at truck stops) are disgusting.

I had the buffet at a truckstop once and the counter person asked him
how I liked it. I had my money out and was ready to pay, but I
answered that it was sort of
greasy and disgusting, and she said, "There's no charge, then."

The only times I ever had a full English breakfast was in the UK and
the other Real Americans with me didn't know what that abominable
    black stuff on the plate
    was, either.

Blood sausage is only eaten by recent immigrants in the USA. I suppose
I might be able to find some Mexican blood sausage (morcilla) amongst
the beef tongues and chicken feet in a local supermarket though.
