SOmeone mentioned that the have an XM radio receive on their bike.

Could you provide some details (e.g. what do you do about the antenna,
what model do you have, how well does
    it work?)

I've heard that even the Delphi MyFi (which is supposed to be the first
portable XM radio) is not very portable.

    Thanx

    JB > lines in ba.>motorcycles:
Don't know about XM, but have a Sirius setup that I move from car to car
and bike to bike .. consist of an Xact XTR1 unit (output to either
earphones or a VERY good FM modulator built in) ..it is complete with
antenna and power connection (cigarette lighter adapter w/long coil cord I
added) .. carry in a tank bag on the BMW with the antenna externally on
top, in a small one shoulder backpack in the FatBoy and on the console in
the cars with the antenna on the far left dash .. works great in all
cirumstances and is easily tunable even with gloves using the panel on the
XTR or the remote. . IMHO this type of thing is the best thing to come
along in a loooooong time (beats the heck out of all my previous solutions
i.e. minidisks, mp3's etc).. was totally pleased since day one and have
received great CS from Siruis ALL the time ..

  3. I gave Sirius the nod after I anted up $165.00 for custom molded ear
plugs with tiny Sony stereo speakers... they proved to be comfortable
plus canceling up to 30 db of fatiguing wind noise...

I know a couple of folks with the Delphi Roady 2 unit and they are
very pleased with it. Hoon Hardware makes a mount for it called
the Roady Holder that has an antenna platform and keeps everything
in one tight little package. You can see it here:

    No affiliation, yada yada...

Thanx to Larrym, Tim and sms for the info.

I have read epinions about XM radios and I thought it may be iffy on a
bike (I guess outside of city limits there aren't too many
repeaters so the signal is spotty). I'll check into Sirius.

OTOH: I have hundreds of old CD's and a couple of MP3 players - maybe
that is the best way (it certainly doesn't cost me
anything to use what I already gots)

JB handed down these > lines in ba.motorcycles:
I too have tons of music and several 'delivery systems' (minidisc, MP3
player, PocketPC w/2GB), but the convenience and wide range of music from
SatRad is really nice .. no prep, just get on and listen... also watch
here: http://www.techbargains.com (available as an rss feed)for promos that
    occur fairly frequently

  7. The only thing that affects my Sirius signal are dense trees and tunnels...
other than that it's always there for me... even while leaned over on my ear...

IIRC: anything which blocks the view of the satellite counts as an
obstruction ie. mountains, dense trees, etc
(things you can find out on the Highways or in the Sierras).

Perhaps the Delphi MyFi just lacks sensitivity - but many reviews
complained it lost the signal far too frequently.

Of course, that is why I was curious what sort of XM/Sirius eqpt people
    have used on their bikes.

But I am losing interest in satellite radio. As a buddy put it: just
buy one new CD each month instead of paying for
    XM radio.

  9. Ahh, but how else can you listen to the Supercross audio broadcast live,
when you're camped out in the wilderness before an enduro...;-)

I'm not a subscriber, but it was fun pulling up some camp chairs and
listening at a neighboring campsite last month.

That's lunacy. You would buy 13 new tracks on a CD each month and for
that you can have access to XM's 2,000,000-plus track library?

My CD collection numbers in the thousands. I haven't bought one in
over two years -- solely because I can't begin to accumulate CDs with
the kind of selection Xm offers. ASIDE from the news, talk & other
    content.

    Strange idea.

I am curious. How do you request a song on XM?
