Is it possible to turn a used Honda XR400R street legal?

Does it make a difference if the bike was originally sold outside of CA?

So what woul be involved, if I by an out-of-state XR400 to convert it to
street (I know about lights: headlight, turn signals and Tail light)
.... what else does Big Brother want?

BTW: One reason I'd like to convert an XR to street is they are very
LIGHT bikes, but also very tall (I'm not as young as I was so hunkering
over a bike isn't as much fun as it used to be) - I want something
light and easy for short commutes and blasting to The Store .. and Stage
    road, etc.

    Uhh, Yes.

There may be tons of info, but I could not find an **answer** to my
question. This is why I asked **people** rather than a search engine.

I always wonder about those who praise Google as if it is godlike in its
power to reveal knowledge. It is just a glorified card catalog - and
it makes no gaurantee about the quality of information it references.

Asking people who know gives better results than asking "the Net"
