XT 250 wont stay ideling, needs choke full open, PLEASE reply SOON

Hey everyone I have an 82 xt 250 that needs the choke wide open to
start at all, and then she wont stay going. There is no header or
exhaust on her (dont know if that would make a difference) but you need
the choke open and about 20 kicks to start her. She has lots of kick
back, seems like lots of compression, the fire on the plug is blue and
constant, and I have cleaned the carb a couple of times. anyone know
what my problem could be? As well I dont know about the gears this is
why Iam trying to keep her going so I can get her in first moving and
check that out cus she wont shift up past neutral into second, if she
was moving maybe shed losen up or something. BTW the bike had no fire
and missing parts when I got her, and laid up a while. SO any good
responses would be great thanks.
