Get mine on Wednesday, in white with a decent screen & hand guards.

Not bad at £4k for an 06 bike with zero miles. Great little bike for
traffic & a hoot to ride too. It's odd though, I looked at a Fazer, but
the damn thing was too small in the leg area. The GSR600 looked a fair
bet, but was a grand more. KTM 690sm was also in the frame, but it was
too expensive & bloody dear to insure too.

The purchase of the bike did throw up a big problem though. Insurance
expense. I got a quote or three & it was serious money even to keep in
    the garage.

I found out even though we live in a nice area we are the highest risk
area in the UK, apart from some inner cites like Liverpool.

As daft as it sounds, I can insure it to be kept on the streets of
Keighley (a *real* northern shithole) for a third of what it was going
to cost to keep it in my garage? Insanity. There's loads of theft here,
as it is a nice area & everyones got decent cars & bikes. Makes you
    fucking sick.

You might want to have a look at this.

    On 10/6/07 15:39, in article , "Nige"
I don't get it Nige - why post stuff everyone knows already? Surely
insurance costs should come as no surprise , given that you already have 2
    vehicles?
Dealers are cunts, insurance varies according to where you live -next you'll
be telling us Steve Hislop is dead...

Well, Steve, this is the funny thing. My car insurance is cheap enough
at £300 including full business use, the blade insurance is cheap & the
BMW was very cheap. I reckon this must have just changed, but can't
find out if it has IYSWIM. The other bikes & cars etc where insured a
couple of months ago. I find it quite a valid point actually.

I could insure a bloody Hayabusa cheaper than a 660cc street bike.
    Madness.

Indeed Splott, Adamsdown and Tremorfa all close by. Friend of mine
lives in the areaa and within 2 weeks of having his bike (a GS125) the
local scum nicked the front wheel.

Upon visiting used to park at TGI/Maplins etc on Newport Road as any
vehicle (Moving or parked) is at high risk.

You should ask your insurer for a multibike policy too. My Xj600 is up
for renewal at a cost of 300ish quid, I also wanted to insure another
bike this would have been 237 quid. Both bikes on the same policy 237
quid! this was with Auntie Carole.

It was Auntie Carole that told me about the rating once i asked why it
    was so bloody dear.

I will get one sorted, just need to get them both sorted. Bennetts are
    cheaper for me.

    Pete Jones wibbled:
Wait 'til a little fucker nicks one of your front calipers and you
don't realise until you get to the hairpin corner at the end of the
    road . . . . .

    pity it's not true:

"* = Any motor cycles in areas D, E or F must be garaged in a locked
and secured building whilst at the policy holders address. In some of
these areas this also applies to cars."

Well, according to the list, I live in a band F* area, yet I, and
plenty of other people around here have bikes, not garaged, and my
    insurance is cheap enough.

And I'm not aware of any problems with theft of either bikes or cars
around here - certainly nothing makes the local free-sheets.

and an update, despite not actually being over 40, I've just insured
the prospective Triumph + my existing BMW for £176. If I did have a
garage, this would have been £120.
