Hey can anyone tell me how much it would cost to insure a 2000 Yamaha
R1 in California, with an 18 year old?

I just checked for myself today (29 y.o. male) on progressive.com for
    12 month policy:

    R1 w/ liability only $447
    R1 w/ liability and comprehensive $3500ish
    R1 w/ liability, comprehensive and collision $6700ish

    Not a hard choice here...

  4. The issue isn't that cut-and-dried.

The answer should be self-evident, of course: dollars-to-donuts the
actuarial tables indicate massive risk for "18 year olds and R1s."
The very idea is almost laughably lunatic, outside a racetrack, but
    that's just my opinion.

Variables include, but are not limited to:

    - Profession
    - Marital status
    - Other insured vehicles, if any
    - MSF or other "approved" classes, if any
    - Residence of primary rider
    - Storage facility for motorcycle
    - Driving record
    - Military, credit union, other discounts.
    - On and on. It's all statistics, man. Figures don't lie.

There isn't any way to answer the question within any reasonable
    margin of error.

I am 35, insure two bikes, a cage, and home with State Farm with no
tickets or wrecks. They seem motorcycle-friendly, of that I'm sure.
Around here I needed to insure a cage to insure bike(s), or perhaps it
the home. I doubt they're alone in offering discounts for that sort
of situation. "Stability" is another statistical indicator,
    apparently.
