According to this weeks MCN[1], the R1 is now a lardy sports tourer,
trounced by pretty much every other litrebike. It was "too soft" they
    said.

And the S1000RR is (the current) king.

The S1000R is the only one of the current crop that looks particularly
    interesting.

In order of appeal, it'd be...

    S1000R
    RSV4
    ZX10R
    <big gap>
    GSXR1000
    <big gap>
    CBR1000RR
    <enormous gap>
    R1

    Couldn't tell you why though.

The only new bike I'm vaguely interested in owning at the moment would
be a GSXR750, as I've never owned one and think they're great. Seems
a quite daft to downgrade from a perfectly servicable 10R though.

Oh, and I wouldn't mind a better tourer with hard luggage. Maybe BMW
will put the S1000R engine into a Blackbird-and-VFR-killer eventually,
if so that'd do the trick.

Oh yeah, one of those. Umm, MVs seem to leave me completely cold for no
apparent reason. Lack of nostalgia for the brand, I guess. And the
    fucking stupid price tag.

As did the one before that. That's the weird thing though - I feel no
particular hankering for a 'blade but I'd still be more inclined to get
one than an R1. I don't know what it is about the Yam but other than the
noise the current one makes (and that itch is scratched by the RSV4)
I've never looked at one and thought "fancy one of them". Ever.

I loved mine and I still think the K4/K5 750 was an oil painting
compared to the thou I've got of the same era. It was a far more
    practical road bike.

But if practical was what I was after, I wouldn't have the bikes I do.

    has the world gone mad?

or....really....have the drugs got to me....

or are you people actually proposing that a BMW is the "top dog"
    sportsbike de le jour?

I suppose it makes no less sense than people buying Skodas, Porches or
Seats as opposed to genuine VWs.

    tee-hee.

FWIW, I've never owned a Skoda, Seat, or VW, but have owned at least 2
    [quasi][1] Porsches

[1] I had a 924 which was sort of an Audi, and then a 924S which was
an actual Porsche, at least in theory.

    924. I bet you often come out of the bog with your suit jacket tucked into
    your kecks too.

Supercars are so last year anyway.

heh. In those days, in NI, it would have been a suit jacket tucked
into a pair of white-with-purple-detailed shell-suit pants. Not
actually on me, you understand, but it was the underlying fashion of
the day. I really only bought the things because they were faster than
my XR2s/Fester 1600S my mum was tooling around in at the time. And my
    dad's horrible Carlton 3000gsi.
well, sure- why do you think my current car is a Mazda?

no, if that were the case, I'd have gone ahead and bought the Lotus
Elise that A. told me not to.

I think it felt too high, the seat was a slab of hard plastic
I didn't feel 'in' the bike, just 'on' it, maybe that's just me (too used
    the the R1 I guess)
    Very unnerving feel for me.
But the sound from the £ 1000 Akrapovic when in gear was Awesome!

Is it so much better than the 1200 or 1300 K engines?

Sounds like he's been doing that for some time.
Although that sounds like a great idea!

sorry. I i new it was wrong about 10ms after posting it.

I've just been hanging around with a bunch of frogs this evening, it
might just improve my french un petit peu.

Though, dear god, I've just remembered something I did
    earlier[1].

[1] pointed out what everyone else was thinking to a pretty
    decent-looking but total **** of a french chick[2]
[2] namely that she'd benefit massively from a good seeing too, but
that it wasn't actually likely to happen[3]
[3] and people call me "unsubtle" - FFS!
