Yamaha RD/Banshee parts

  1. Fascinating. If you'll excuse me, I'll X-post this to ukrmc, where there
are a few RD fans lurking furtively. I wonder what other Banshee bits
fit RDs (as we call 'em)?

More to the point, I wonder what a Banshee would be like with a set of
    power-valve barrels on ti?

Well known fact amongst PV owners, but not so relevant to us UK owners
as we've got loads of used parts for 350s kicking around these shores.
350 PVs aren't as common in the US and Canada, so the need to look for
an alternative supply of used parts is greater.
Slowe - the Banshee engine is in a much higher state of tune. Now I've
heard that fitting Banshee top end on a 350 PV can be quite fun.

  3. Just the head, or the head with the barrels? Because GC says the Banshee
    is non power-valve.

The head's fairly simple being a 2T the power valve stuff is in the barrels
    in the exhaust port.

Top end is barrels and head with appropriate pistons. Bottom end is
anything inside, and including, crankcases/outer c/case covers. Come on,
    surely you knew that?

  6. Yell, yeah, I just thought doing away with the PV would make the bike a
    bit peaky.

What you want are the Banshee barrels with a PV.

Why? The powervalve smooths the power delivery, half the fun of a
Banshee is the way the power kicks in with a bang.

  8. Fair comment, as you were, carry on that lunatic smelling of fully
    synthetic 2T.

Which is why I always preferred pre powervalve RD's

The 350F2 was a fast bike, for what it was, tested at 125mph by a couple
of mags. The earlier non-pv bikes would be hard pushed to reach that
when professionally tuned. I loved the last powervalve I had, it was a
cracking little bike. The earlier 4LO bikes handled better than the
first of the 31K powervalves, but Yamaha soon got on the case and sorted
that out. I'm not a fan of the 31Ks apart from their engines.

  11. That's what I had - a blue/yellow one, bought new.

You could gear them up, because they'd easily spin into the red in top
at about an indicated 120. The taller gearing (one more tooth on the
gearbox sprocket) made them a bit more relaxed at cruising speed,
improved economy slightly, and they'd still pull to the redline in top
at (IIRC) an indicated 127 or something.

Trouble was, that it moved the power-valve flat spot further up the rev
range. You know: the sort of black hole at 6000rpm when the PV can't
decide whether to open fully or not.

On stock gearing this happened at 70-75 mph in top, which wasn't a
problem, but with the higher gearing it happened at about 80+, which was
really irritating. So I put it back to stock gearing in the end.

  12. Ahem! You know better than that, Neil.
That's not moving it up the *rev range*...

  13. My bad. I meant "up the speed range".
