Some Aussie selling an RD400 drag bike reckons it needs a set of shocks
fitting and it'll be pretty much ready for the road.

I wonder if he'd like to add that as soon as it hits a bump the exhausts
will bend or break and it'll change gear on its own as the swingarm goes
up and down. Obviously it'll need electrics and lights fitting, but
that's all part of getting it street legal.

I wouldn't need lights to make it street legal - or have 'they' chaged
    the laws again?

  5. You think that's bad? For a few years there, headlights had to be
hardwired to be permanently on. Eventually sanity prevailed and that
    law was recinded.

A few UK spec bikes are being sold with headlights hard wired
permanently on now. My Triumph Daytona was in 2004. R1s/R6s and I think
    GSXRs are too.

My 2003 B12 has hard wired headlights - what would have been the
headlight switch is now a hazard light switch.

My Tuono has hardwired lights. These would be a pain for when the
battery's flat, and when setting the clock (the flasher button is also
the time advance), except that the fuse box is just to the right of
the clocks and it's easy to whip the headlight fuse out.

    And a chain.

Not to mention the hardware needed for mounting the lights, battery,
    etc.

I'm going to fit the old style switchgear to mine, it's dead easy to do.
I like having the choice of lights on or off.

  12. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Champ
    You can, you silly man.

    Ignition on: lights on.
    Ignition off: lights off

There, that wasn't so hard was it?

I thought you believed in politicians, and the fact they make sensible
decisions for the benefit of the common man.

Soon it'll be on all cars too, if they get their way and save us all!

  14. If everyone rode with their lights on full beam all the time, the
    legislators might think twice.

Not owning anything remotely approaching a new bike, I wouldn't know the
answer to this: is this *all* bikes that have their lights wired on now,
or just over 500cc or something?

I was under the impression that it hadn't been decided by politicians
yet, rather it was a pre-emptive roll-over-and-play-dead on the part
    of the manufacturers.
