Do you think the Liberals would have let Australia slip into a full
recession by not stimulating the economy?
Do the letters GFC mean anything to you? Wasn't it better to spend money,
save jobs and prevent going into recession whilst the economies of countries
like the UK and the US and rest of Europe were going down the tube?
There were fuckups along the way, sure, but things could have turned out a
    lot worse too.

  8. But was that REALLY the reason things didn't hit us as hard?

Remember too, that that money has to come from somewhere, they didn't
just 'magic' it to us. Therefore, in essence, it is ignoring the problem
and hoping it will go away.
Yes, we could have had double as many killed and/or houses bured down by
their incompetent schemes. Not to mention that this insulation lark and
it's subsidy meant a bunch of fly by night firms popped up to do the
work (shoddily) and put many of hte existing businesses - who did the
job right - out of business.

That's the bloody problem with Labor, I believe in some of the things
they are supposed to represent (in general free education, health care
and aged care) but the fact is the bastards simply don't deliver. Time
and time again they **** it up. The thing is the conservative parties in
Aus might not be quite as compassionate, but in the end if the economy
is strong, then people can work and earn money and be well off (of
course if they don't want to work, why should we support them without
any considitions attached). Strong economy = good place to live, and
frankly the left just don't manage it well if at all. (and to be fair
over the years there's been incompetence by liberal treasurers/pms)

You work hard for your money, how would you like it if your neighbour
spent all his money on coke and hookers and then demanded you give him
your wages - hey don't be a **** he 'needs' it (and then if he gets it,
not turn over a new leaf, nope , more coke and hookers.

Essentially this is what Labor have now tried to do - they've fucked us
over economically so bloody quickly, and put us in so much debt that now
they are trying to take a sector of commerce - i.e. the mining industry
    - which has for years been one of the highest paying
skilled/unskilled/semi skilled employers in this country - for anyone
who has the balls to relocate to a mining town, they can end up living
very well and retiring comfortably. Labor comes along and says "you've
all been doing everything right, we're complete fuckups, so now we are
going to add a new tax on you to pay for our relentless ongoing fuckups.

Does that seem fair to anyone besides dole bludgers?

    Nope.

The GFC, such as it was, was little more than an *American* financial crisis
that had a slight impact on *some* other countries. The effect it had here
    was minimal at best.
There's been some slowdown in other parts of the world, particularly in
America, but saying that the rest of Europe is in trouble is stretching
    things a tad :)

Oh, and England's ecconomy has been fucked since the end of WWII.
I'm afraid the worst is yet to come for us here in sunny old Oz.

Had the government done nothing we would have weathered the storm and come
out the other side without a hiccup. Instead they had a massive knee-jerk in
listening to all the financial forecasters who couldn't see past next
Tuesday and threw *shitloads* of money at a problem that never existed with
the nett result being that we'll be in debt for *years* and have to be taxed
up the wahzoo to pay for it.

Thanks Labor. You do it every fucking time you get into office.

Absolutely, but then they do it time and again.

Labor has an *appalling* history of wasting money every time they get into
office, and this government is no exception. In fact I'd go so far as to
suggest they've been one of the worst in recent times, as all they've seemed
to do is throw money at every single obstacle they've come across with no
real thought process behind what they're doing other than a firm belief that
if they chuck enough cash at it the problem will go away.

    Sadly....

Compared to the trouble they were in *before* anyone had ever heard of the
term "Global Financial Crisis" you mean? :)
The Coalition, or any government for that matter, will tell you whatever
they think you want to hear. That doesn't mean it's right, or even true.
Political statements aren't given under oath by qualified experts.
    Of course it has.

Your income tax might not have changed, but your day to day cost of living
has gone through the roof and that's all linked to it. The end user always
feels the effects of such policies whether it be in what he hands over to
the government in the form of taxation, or what he hands over to keep food
    on the table.
If you lined up ten thousand people and asked them would they prefer to be
in the red or in the black, 9,999 of them would say the black. The odd guy
out would only be so because he was colour blind.
There's nothing wrong with borrowing money and being in debt, *provided* you
have the ability to service the loan. That's the important thing that *many*
people forget. Both private citizen and government department.

The current government announced a budget where the only way they could show
they had a hope of fixing their mistakes and getting back into the black
relatively quickly was by introducing a new "super profits tax", and what's
worse is that they used the projections that tax would realise to make their
numbers work *before* the tax had even gone before parliament and was
passed. In other words, they played "chicken farmer" and were selling eggs
that had yet to be laid.

You don't see anything wrong with that? I sure as shit do.

    Bugger indeed :)
Would they be the same ones who were painting fire and brimstone pictures
for the public to panic over *before* the so called "crisis" hit?

I read a comment once that went along the lines of "A financial analyst is a
person who has a natural ability to accurately predict the past", and I
thought that was both amusing *and* accurate :)
Then you're one of the lucky ones.

There are many out there who are finding their day to day costs increasing
out of all proportion with their rates of pay, and it's not all just about
companies trying to rake in profits. Governments are hiking fees and
creating new ones, power costs are going up like a Chinese skyrocket,
registration fees are up, rates, etc, and so on.

A fair bit of it is at state and local level, but it all stems from Federal
    fallout.
    Nice :)
I've got a problem with the principal in that once it's implemented it then
becomes a pretext to be used against anyone else the government feels is
"making too much money" and who can easily be squeezed as a source of income
to cover their own financial mismanagement.

I don't have any fear that it'll be used against individuals directly, but
the big companies who will no doubt be on the receiving end of this "cash
grab" in future are not going to simply suck it up as part of their normal
operating costs. Those costs will be passed on for the individual to pay,
and that means it'll come out of the pockets of people like you and me.

    As usual.
