Cite please? I mean, not in a Andrew bolt column like this one:
    http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/.../comments/column_how_rudd_blows_your_billions

Did you mean 17 hot water supplies? At Koondrook-Barham club? You
may be interested that the Herald Shun misreprented the facts as
    usual.

Listen to this interview (15 minutes into the audio file provided),
where the president of the football club reveals that the Shun appear
to have either invented numbers, or gotten the (false) numbers off
someone else and have attributed them to him in their front page
    story:

    http://blogs.abc.net.au/victoria/20...tml?site=melbourne&program=melbourne_mornings

The club has 6 football sides, 8 netball sides, umpires for each game, and
on a typical saturday, gets 160-200 uses out of the showers, according to
the president. The old heaters, all 4 of them, naturally ran out very
early in the day. And it was for 15 showers, not 4.

Note there was no retraction in the Shun (don't want to let facts get in
the way of a good story).
I would say it was a failure to estimate the malice involved in the
typical shonkster. There's a fuckload of greedy idiots out there.
They weren't accounted for properly. Pity we can't assume that
    everyone's not an arsehole.

I think they were largely ignored, weren't they. And as you say there are
plenty of people in serious shit right now with their pay versus costs
disparity. I think it's a lot more than "so called" crisis for a lot of
    people.

I think it sums them up perfectly. It was you that started throwing around
the "qualified expert" nonsese, i just thought you were going soft :)

Believe me, i put my good fortune down to my own policies not labors.
I don't expect or trust any govt to consider my situation.

Yeah the fee and rate rises haven't gone un noticed, i have three regos and
four insurances runing at the moment plus rates on my bush property and my
mums place and rent while working in sydney. And the cost associated with my
Grandfathers slowly diminishing health. Old people are bloddy expensive. I
think that fact will end up biting people pretty hard sooner than later too.
I'm lucky that i have a sensible brother that shares the "family costs" and
my cost of living is kept sensible by understanding the vast difference
between want and need. I think that that difference escapes a lot of the
    population.

Agreed, the pretext could be created, but it wouldn't be hard to legislate
for that not to be a problem. Leaving aside the trust issues for a moment.
I know that they keep or even create whole communities to support their
endevours but it's not out of the goodness of their hearts. Once they walk
off with their last big bag of rocks, that's, traditionaly, that.
And they get their rocks pretty cheaply in my oppinion, obviously 'cos the
world price boom came well after the rates were set, and then value add for
massive profit, i don't see why they shouldn't be made to turn some of that
value back into the country that facilitates their endevours. My income
rises so does my tax rate. I cant say to the ATO "but we had a deal i only
    pay x% in tax"

Big companies have spent an awful lot of time and money protecting their
bottom lines and i agree they're not just going to suck it up. Sadly the
consumer has no idea how powerfull they are and will continue to get
distracted by the nice shiney new objects, meaning the costs will always get
    passed on.
It would take a massive shift in thinking of the whole population before you
and i stop getting bent over by big business, a decent government would at
    least supply the lube.

It was in the Herald-Sun over here some months ago. They had a lovely photo
of this *huge* line of breand new heat pump hot water services all lined up
and neatly installed running along the length of the back wall of some
school sports hall that were all connected to this tiny little change room
    :)
You'll never know, but I can tell you right now that when the government is
picking up the tab contractors write out quotes with a pencil sharp enough
    to perform micro surgery.
It was *fucked up*. That's all that matters.
There's no doubt been millions of good ideas over the centuries that when
put into practice simply don't work. Unfortunately this was one.
Was that a Federal issue or a state one?
How is life on Mars these days anyway? :)
Just out of curiosity, what is it that the current Labor government has done
in the last three years that you think is so fantastic?

I'm genuinely curious, as apart from saying "Sorry" to the stolen
generation, and introducing a fairly decent system for grading the accademic
performance of schools I can't think of too much that they've promised and
    actually delivered on.
    No argument here.
I really don't think you guys over there have too much to worry about.

Our Labor state government has spent 1.4 *billion* dollars on a public
transport ticketting system that is 2 years behind schedule and *still*
doesn't work properly. That 1.4 billion could have built a world class
hospital, or employed a full fleet of station staff and tram conductors for
    the next 7000 years :)
    Good on her.

We had some fuckwit from the Greens doing a door knock the other day, and I
told her that about the only time I'd consider voting for Bob Brown would be
if I accidentally speared my head with a pick. I figured if I could survive
that then anything would be possible.

She didn't seem to understand and just gave me a blank stare, and then
walked off to annoy the neighbours.

Of course they don't. Economists are like crystal ball readers. They'll make
all sorts of vague predictions *before* an "event" and go into great detail
*after* it telling you they were right all along.

A lot of economists thought Telstra shares were a brilliant idea and advised
people to buy them by the truckload. People who own Telstra shares today
probably think that most economists are about as useful as a **** full of
    barbed wire.

If it was in an Andrew Bolt column and you *won't* accept that as a cite,
then what do you want? :)

Seriously, the article was in the Herald-Sun, but it wasn't anything to do
with Andrew Bolt. I purposely don't read anything he has to say as I think
    he's a world class fuckwit.
I seem to recall it was a school, but exactly what school I can't tell you.
For the record, the article did include a few photos, and while I never
counted the heaters there were a *lot* of them all neatly lined up against
the back wall of what looked to be a pretty small building for so many hot
water units. One of the photos was an interior shot of the building which
looked like a hall, and while it didn't show the bathrooms they must have
been tiny to exist in what space was left.
    Indeed it is.

Still, you'd have to be pretty naive to think that if you're going to hand
out cash to anyone who lodges a chit to say they've done a job and rely
solely on their integrity that it wouldn't all turn to shit in an awfully
    big hurry.

Yeah, but,..we all got $900 odd smackers,..in terms of tax we pay, that is a
mere fraction. OTOH, the bungled infrastructure projects were a turkey-shoot
    waste of money.

That "story" has already been discredited ;-)
This has always been the case, nothing new there.
If you don't learn from the mistakes you are doomed to repeat them.
Federally funded main roads. But the Libs simply don't spend on any level,
(unless it's ego feeding bell towers) Barnett put a stop to our new
hospital - a major project to replace the existing facility which is
hopelessly inadequate because it's old and it's servicing an ever increasing
population. Armadale got theirs, thanks to Labor, and it's been a massive
    boon for the area.
We will be returning to earth next state election, one would hope.
I think I've mentioned these elsewhere, at least they are importantly
because they affect me directly. (better main roads, better school
facilities and grading system you mentioned, better job security through
stimulus, and the NBN is desperately needed - but not the filter - to make
this country more competitive on the world stage)

Now the Liberals are refusing to submit their policies for further
    costing... hmmmm.

Just imagine how expensive those tickets are going to be ;-)
If our public transport system had been left for the Libs to sort out, we
would still be walking from Perth to Mandurah :)
Maybe she thought that the odds of getting your vote weren't too bad... you
would need to have a full frontal lobotomy to vote for Abbott ;-)

Yep and not many put their money where their mouth is either. I have to
laugh every Reserve Bank decision to increase the interest rate. Trouble is
all the financial tv experts have already told us what the RB is going to
    do.

It may have been, but like I said they did show a photo and it looked like a
*shitload* of hot water services for a small building.
That's true, and in light of that fact it makes it even harder to understand
how the government could impliment such a scheme as the free insulation
****-up and still expect it to work without issues.
We're talking about politicians here. They *never* learn :)
Labor, on the other hand, spends up *large* on ego feeding bell towers :)

Rumour has it that our Premier John "what can I waste fuckloads on this
week" Brumby has his advisors out looking for opportunities for him to be
seen wearing a hard hat and a flouro vest.
There's got to be more to it than that. Stopping a new hospital is a *huge*
negative in the political world. It rates right up there with trying to cut
    thr old age pension.
The road upgrade would have been in the pipe for years, and I'd argue that
the stimulus bonus did jack shit for job security unless you owned a pokie
venue or sold plasma TV's for a living.
I thought they announced yesterday that they're throwing open their books to
have their pledges independently costed on Monday?
It's a fucking disgrace to be honest and the bastards should be put up for
    trial.
The really stupid thing is that the system worked under our last state
Liberal government without any issues. It's never been great, and it needs a
*massive* cash injection to update the rolling stock and track system, but
the ticketing system was simple, basic and easy for anyone to use.

This new system is a complete ****-up that works when it feels like it,
isn't yet transportable from train to bus to tram, and if you don't have
internet access you have a shitload of a time actually buying a ticket.
I've already voted by postal vote, and my vote went to the Australian Sex
    Party.

    It does indeed.

It shows how a country like Greece, which survives on nothing other than
tourism and bad management, can slide into the shit pretty easily when
circumstances change and they have no contingency plan.
Yeah, I made a good stack on them as well, but that's because I *didn't*
listen to all the experts who were saying that there were better times
coming and I should hang onto them :)

Plenty of other countries in dire straits, for whatever reason it was the
GFC and resulting recession that fucked them over.

    Sure.

If you look at the histories of those other countries, you're bound to find
that they were in plenty of shit before the phrase "global financial crisis"
was even heard of. For many it was little more than a convenient excuse to
blamer their existing bad management on.
You'd like to think so, wouldn't you? :)

It's still a great country BTH.
great: relatively large in size or number or extent; larger than others
of its kind. (ain't many greater!)

    It's also a great country to be lucky-enough to be a citizen of;
(compared to a lot of the rest of the world).

Pity there's so many arseholes who think they somehow should have the
right to deny others the chance of applying for citizenship.
