Kickstart is locked solid, but you can turn the crank 180 degrees by hand using the flywheel (very tight) - both pots have compression, can still change gear. Bit baffled to be honest, I'm guessing left hand side of the crank, but as we've got the builders in, I'm not really inclined to strip the engine down while they're wheeling barrow loads of sand through the garage....
Piston ring picked up in a port? My old KX500 did this when the ring rotated due to the end-gap locating pin disappearing somewhere. PS: Want to sell it as a going concern guvnor? JB
Know that feeling well... I've got a YPVS lump of some flavour (F1?) in the shed which has, AFAIK, a sound bottom end (well, crank seals will have died in storage) if you know what bits are needed. Never did get around to sticking it in the LC & have sold things like the igniter box...
Yeah I think you sold it to me..... I'm weeks away from stripping it down, but I'll give you a shout if I need anything. I've got a spare gearbox, but if the cranks gone I'll have to grab a recon.
*Snort* Been there, done that, with a Power-Valve. And a GT185, come to think of it. if you need some OS rings, I've got air-cooled RD350 ones at +1.00mm and I'm 99% certain they fit the power-valve, although Lozzo will be along shortly to confirm or deny. Free to you, guv.
says... The genuine RD400 rings will fit genuine Yamaha RD350LC and Powervalve pistons, but you can't use RD400 pistons in a Powervalve engine. The ring gaps are spaced just so they catch in the main inlet port at the rear of the Powervalve's barrel. Just as well I checked before fitting the RD400 pistons into my old Powervalve really. They are currently in use as paperweights in my office.
JB says... Sounds about right. Broken ring is lodging in the port. Had it happen to an RD250 once. You're looking at a rebore at the very least.
