You Tube

  1. Just curious but does anyone know how it works in terms of data format,
    speed etc?

Sometimes it seems to save a track so that it plays flawlessly without
interruption and yet attempts to replay it a few days later means it
goes back to the main Youtube database and it's subject to download
    speeds again.

Now the legal / moral question - is using Youtube to watch old pop
videos a breach of copyright? It seems certain artists go to great
lengths to get their stuff removed - U2 and Depeche Mode are two - while
others (e.g. Madonna) don't seem to give damn.

The 'website' Google and YouTube videos are .flv files (Flash Video) -
you'll find them in your Temporary Internet Files directory. Just
search for FLV Player and you can watch without having to go to the
    website.

An application called 'SUPER' lets you convert them to other formats
(garbage in = garbage out) but you can play them back with things like
    FLV Player
