dwb emerged from their own little world to say
To be recommended. You have to cross the Alps to get there so it's
hardly a slog. I'll be blasting down to Metz, crossing the Rhine then
working my way through the Black Forest, Bavaria & Austria to get there.
I was in Slovenia in 1999. Their Alpine passes are maintained to a
similar standard to Italy. Perfectly rideable but worse than France and
very inferior to Austria. One of the passes, from Soca to Kranjska Gora,
has 49 hairpins. The road between the corners is pretty good but the
bends are cobbled and were very bumpy on my CBR6. Your bike would lap
    them up.

The main routes were excellent in 1999. There was quite a bit of road
construction going on so I'm expecting things like the motorway from
Villach in Austria to the Adriatic to be completed by now.

    Croatia - haven't a clue yet.

    No it isn't. I find that a local, Italian deli-type place[1] is
usually best, although we have our own coffee bar here that I
use, mostly because I'm too lazy to go further.

[1] You're never more than a hundred yards or so from one
    in London.

You may, but you really don't need to. My input's strictly market
research, web site, & maybe a bit of help on the business side. Oh, &
fitting electrical gizmos that make wasps go 'bzzzzzz' in a way they
never expected. Apart from that, it's SO's baby, not mine.

This was covered in an article in (I think) the Observer. Apparently,
according to Starbucks' main coffee buyer, we don't understand how coffee
should taste (and presumably, the people at Coffee Republic, who they took
over, and IMO made much better coffee, were clearly know-nothing fucks).
It's *supposed* taste thin and bitter.
That's pretty much the best of the chains, IME. Costa are good too, though
a bit thinner on the ground

  7. Probably true that there are a lot of neurotic people who fancy that
they have allergies. But a genuine allergy can kill you. Someone has a
cup of coffee with some friends who know about her allergies and are
careful. The server is told "No hazelnuts. Allergies". But there's
some cross contamination. Who knows - a spoon might just have had a
rinse after being used in another cup. Luckily the paramedics were
there in under 10 minutes and were able to revive their clinically
    dead patient.

Right, I need to go to the bank at lunch time - I'm going to go
to one that I've not been to yet for lunch. Any recommendations
    in the Marylebone/Baker Street area?

I must go and find out if my old[1], local one in Royal Opera
Arcade[2] is still there - best bacon & avocado granary rolls ever!

[1] At least nine years since I was last there.

Why not? That place must make an absolute fortune. There's always bikes
there, even on the shittiest of midwinter Sundays, and in the summer
    the place is heaving.
It's got acres of parking, toilets nearby, and sweet little girls
serving and shouting 'NUMBER 'UNDRED AN' FIR'Y FREE! BACON AN' EGG
    BUTTY AN' A CUPPA TEA!'
    Class.

    You forgot the spam.
You haven't thought about this from the preperation POV obviously. You
said you don't want tinned stuff, so all that pasta sauce has to be
made at the start of the day and other ingredients prepped, pizzas
assembled & cooked per order, pasta cooked per order, tea/coffee served
and ground and brewed, tables tidied, food delivered, money taken. By
    one person.

You think she's a fuckin octopus?
Is your vastly flawed interpretation of what I want. Try actually
    *reading* my original post.
More time than a normal coffee maker. More space for extra/different
    equipment. More money too.
    See above.
Coming from someone who can't think anything though past the first
    thought.
Oh please do, I'd like to see you go down in flames, loosing loada dosh
    in the process.

    For buses.
IME, they're not the most 'pleasant' of experiences to use.
If you say so, I can't say I'd noticed - I remember SteveH and I stopping
somewhere in Wales at a Tea shop that had the most gorgeous staff serving -
they probably all look like their mothers by now though :)

Yes, perhaps we differ in the definition of class.

Odd innit that those toys seem restricted to another generation and not
us brought up on limited choice and rationing even though the war was 10
year over types? There must be a connection, I had just assumed that
the reason why we hadn't heard of it was that Birds Eye lawyers are
probably as good at their job as those who work for BAT.

I like the one near the John Lewis front entrance, on the southern side
    of the MK shopping centre.

TBH finding decent coffee is hard as I don't like it very strong, but
do like it to taste damn good, so I normally go for a cafe mocha or
coke, but would rather have normal coffee.
I'll admit I haven't tried Subway in the UK. The one in florida I tried
was yum which is why I was happy to see one appearing in MK. I'll have
to try them and see what its like. My favourite cafe snack at the mo is
a sub roll, toasted depending on what I fancy in it.
Not from cafes its not, which is what the thread is about.

Anyway, seeing the location of this cafe I suspect a range of fresh
sarnies/rolls/subs to take away will go down a storm. If the car park
gets the sun it might be good to partition off a bit of it and put
    chairs/tables out there?

No we don't. There is too much bollox associated with a simple cup of
coffee these days and all it does is cost us extra. Your foreign
poofter mates might like all this fashionable faffing around but us
proper Brits want proper tea and rest of you can stuff the coffee right
up your pretentious trans atlantic bridge.
