dwb emerged from their own little world to say

With a group of mainly strangers. I have a mate who organises tours. We have an arrangement when there's a cancellation. So far I've had discounted trips to Burgundy in 2001, Lake Garda in 2003 and now Croatia.
What are the roads like as a matter of interest in that general part of the world [1]? I'm going to Slovenia soon and I'm somewhat concerned they'll be rather good and give me silly ideas about riding a bike down there at some point :-)
To be recommended. You have to cross the Alps to get there so it's hardly a slog. I'll be blasting down to Metz, crossing the Rhine then working my way through the Black Forest, Bavaria & Austria to get there.
[1] I know that's rather vague as the economies, and therefore road building, is wildly different between very near countries.
I was in Slovenia in 1999. Their Alpine passes are maintained to a similar standard to Italy. Perfectly rideable but worse than France and very inferior to Austria. One of the passes, from Soca to Kranjska Gora, has 49 hairpins. The road between the corners is pretty good but the bends are cobbled and were very bumpy on my CBR6. Your bike would lap them up. The main routes were excellent in 1999. There was quite a bit of road construction going on so I'm expecting things like the motorway from Villach in Austria to the Adriatic to be completed by now. Croatia - haven't a clue yet.
