I'll stop riding sports bikes when they scare me.

My NS500 scares me every time I ride it. Mainly cos every time I ride it I
think it's going to seize at 12000rpm, but not just because of that....

Then again, the steering geometry/power/tyres/brakes etc would render it a
    'tourer' these days.....

GL1200, loaded to the gunwales with a brace of fat cunts, conducted along
the highway at speeds between 95 and 110(ish), chomps its way through 4
gallons in a shade less than 160 miles. Breaks down on the way home. A
borderline paragon of the motorcycle engineer's craft

    "Characterless"? You ****. I /love/ the VFR's engine.

You have a 750, the 800i is characterless in comparison. Typically
honda, take a good bike and engineer all the character out of it over
    the years.

Having ridden both 750 and 800 back to back, I really can't see why the
750 is universally loved and the 800 almost universally slated. There
really isn't a lot of difference between them.

Utter bollocks. I owned an early 750 and loved it. I've ridden a few
800is and they are a typically boring Honda with zero redeeming
    features.

    ISTR Sheene's RG500[1] having a head angle of 37deg. That's
    practically GoldWing territory.

[1] The one he did the 137mph lap of Spa on.

My back to back test suggests otherwise.

Maybe there's some rose tinted glasses shit going on here.

It's a shame it's not possible to do a 'blind' test of the two bikes. I
reckon that a large majority of the UK riding population wouldn't be
able to tell the 2 apart in a blind test.

Rubbish, the vast majority would easily tell one bland feeling and
sounding engine compared against something that is both lively and
    involving.

The 800i is quite honestly the most bland engine that Honda have made in
    decades.
