Are you *sure* it was a VFR you rode and not some bland inline 4?

'cos the 800 still has the characteristic bark all the Honda VFRs have.

It's a V4, and probably one of the most characterful engines Honda ever
built. It's twice the bike my 1200 Trophy ever was.
Don't confuse the miserable, gutless 800 VTEC with a classic 750, as
approved by the Campaign for Real Cams.

    Don't forget the pre-VTEC 800i.....

    <cough>
lots of bollocks being spouted here. Like you can't have lots and lots
of fun on a 90+ bhp bike.

I can, on all three of mine.

The most powerful is the least involving, though.

  9. lozzo's about 100 times more experienced than you, so I'll trust his
    opinion over yours, quite honestly.

I don't get this. The bike's fast but it only does what I want it to
do so it doesn't scare me. It did when I first had it and it handled
like a turd but now I'm used to it I think it's great fun. It'll pick
the front wheel up at will, it'll spin the back tyre up if you want it
to, it'll shake the front end coming out of corners if you're giving
it loads but it only does it if I want it to. Why would I be scared of
    something I can control?

Actually, I care for several reasons: first, because I have a slight
'green' conscience (it helps make up for all the energy-intensive fun
stuff I do); second, because of the cost; third, for convenience, I
hate having to stop and refuel.

I would tend to agree, and for the life of me, can't see why my 'blade
only gets around 35mpg, regardless of how it's ridden.

    I'll agree with that.

I wouldn't want to race the bastard thing because I really couldn't
ride it on the limit for an hour at a time. I might think I'm clever
but I'm not clever enough to tame it when giving it full stick
    everywhere.

Hmm... my K100 gets 38 commuting, which is pretty much cruising at
something like 90-110 and won't see a track.

The ZXR750 is more fuel efficient.

Not that I'm saying I've nothing to learn but... in this case it
wouldn't help- it's a motorway commute and it's just the nature of the
bike if it's ridden with an open throttle; I rarely find the need to
    brake.

Of course, the fact that there's something wrong with the air metering
    doesn't really help.
