YUASA 12-volt battery nut-bolt terminal connector set

    I have a YUASA Yumicron 12-volt battery (Y50-N18L-A3) where I just lost the
    little nut -- that goes with the screw/bolt -- the other day while installing
    the battery in my motorcycle (CB 750). Naturally, the nut-bolt set is used to
    connect the battery to the battery terminals.

    Talk about some freak shit happening! The nut fell, hit the muffler and then
    bounced somewhere! I spent more than an hour looking for this thing. No luck
    finding it.

    I asked the shop where I bought the battery if they had a spare nut-bolt set
    they could give me or let me buy. The guy looked at me with a straight face
    and told me I'd just have to buy a whole new battery! A brand new battery??
    This one is only a couple of months old!

    Surely, I can buy a nut-bolt set for my brand of battery out there somewhere?

    Does anyone know of a place?

    (p.s., When I told the guy I accidentally lost the piece, he looked at at me
    like I was some kind of idiot -- like this had never been done before. Jerk.)

    Go to a different (REAL) bike shop and ask the service guy for a bolt & nut
    from an old battery in the recycle pile. This should be free. A 6 mm nut
    bolt will do in a pinch. Don't go back to store 1.

    diploma mill that purveys sheepskin to bachelors of know-nothing in

    I feel as sorry for you as I feel for the dipshit in Atlanta that
    bought a Honda with a hole in the crankcase. Which is to say, I don't
    feel sorry for you at all, just disgusted at what motorcycling has
    become, invaded by helpless yuppies as it has been.

    Go to a frikkin' hardware store. Take the screw or bolt, whichever you
    still have and look in the metric hardware department and find a hex
    nut that fits into your 10 millimeter wrench. Screw the screw into it.
    If it fits, buy the nut or for a nickel and take it home. Install it.

    Some dark night, throw a brick through the window of the $tealer$hip
    that tried to $crew you...

    Tell 'em brother krusty kritter sent ya!

    Or, maybe you could write an angry letter to American Honda and
    complain about the lousy service you're getting from their franchi$ed

  5. I use stainless metric stuff from my local Ace hardware. I use metric
    to make sure the bike is all metric so I don't have to worry about
    mixing up parts and stripping threads. While you're there, buy
    a small assortment of metric nuts and bolts and stash them in
    your garage or better yet on the bike.

  6. Yah, but most batteries I've seen use lead (or a lead-like alloy?)
    for their connectors. SS is down a bit in the conductivity stakes when
    the cranking current starts flowing. I'd go for brass as the best
    compromise between availability and conductivity. Assuming you can't get
    one off an old battery as others have suggested...

  7. The cable end's in direct contact with the lead terminal with
    brass washers on the backside of the cable end and terminal.
    I'd considered a brass nut and bolt but was too lazy to go search
    for them. Metric's still not as common as SAE here.

    I'd set it up with a threaded shaft, a double nut on the inside
    to lock the shaft in place and a wingnut on the outside holding
    the cable in place. Makes it easy to do a quick battery disconnect
    in order to work on something. Maybe I'll get ambitious enough
    to go find the equivalent in brass.

    Start at Home Depot. Worst case, the battery connection is lead, so it
    isn't hard to take a tap and cut new threads in it that correspond to
    standard size nut/bolt.

    That's for sure. In all likelihood, your old battery or similar was probably
    in a stack out back waiting to be recycled. It would have been much skin
    off his ass to pull a nut off for you.
