Z650 - mine!!!!

Discussion in 'Classic Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Jun 27, 2006.

  1. My God, it is *immaculate*.

The paint has all been professionally done and looks like new. The
engine is as sweet as (insert favoured confectionery here). No smoke, no
    rattles.

The chrome is fabulous. Just beginning to go on the front mudguard
bridge, very slightly. Rims, everything else - ace. Seat looks like it's
    a couple of years old.

Yes, the exhausts are just starting to rot around the balance sections.
I think a touch of welding may be in order here in the near future.

Downsides? It's got the horrible US market 85mph speedo, like the XS650
did. And US bars, which are somewhat raised. And I'd forgotten how crap
    those old single discs were.

I'll put up some pictures later. Right now, I'm a very pleased bunny
    indeed.

No, it's red. Red. Remember that lovely candy red? That red. So much
    nicer than GPZ red.

You know, I *wondered* about that. I had a feeling the 85mph clocks
were a bit later, but wasn't sure. This is a 1978 model, according to
the paperwork, so a B2, probably. I suppose it could have been hanging
around a showroom or warehouse for a few years.....
This is, of course, true. On the run to Chimay, I fully expect to have
it pegged in third gear, never mind fourth and fifth.

For some strange reason you remind me of a cat I used to have that
purred and dribbled copiously when it was *really* happy. :)

  11. As you say, the seat is horrible (and the exhaust is on the way out) but
    that's still nice.

  12. Not as much as you might think. A friend shipped a Harley back.

    About £400, IIRC.

The way to do it is to fill a container and ship that.

  13. Heh. The thing is, anyone could have had it. I saw the ad in Bike Trader
(which I was browsing in W H Smiths) and thought: "Hm, that looks worth
    a phone call...."

    And took it from there.

Realistically, it's worth about £1500 with that stock exhaust, even
    though it isn't perfect.

    That's the colour my 1999 ZX-9R and my 1997 GPZ500 were.
