    Hi,

I've seen an local advert for a Z650 - 1977, £1500, "well cared for, very
    good condition"

Good price? How sensible to own? Used to have a Z400 long time ago - loved
    it!

Quite collectable now, so one in very good condition could be worth
that much. It does depend on the model, tho. I would expect the B
series, with wire wheels, slide carbs and single front brake to be
worth most (which, for a 77 model, it should be). Many of these were
converted to twin discs (I did it on mine), which while being a very
sensible mod does make it non-standard.

The motors are pretty unbustable [1], but this machine is nearly 30
years old now, so anything that can wear out may have worn out. You
should go over it with a very keen eye.

Whereabouts are you. If it's not a million miles away I'd be happy to
    look at it with you.

[1] press here for boring stories about how the same basic motor was
used for the 750 turbo, developing 75% more horsepower than the
    original 650.

    Cheers for the offer.

What's the handling and comfort like?

Well, I'm less than 100 miles away. I could be tempted to come up.
Hmm. Handling, by modern standards, will be pretty shite. The wheels
will be narrow and in old-fashioned diameters, so tyre choice is
limited. The frame will be flexy, and the brakes poor at best.
However, none of this will stop you having a whale of a time on it.

Comfort's not at all bad, tho, and much better for a pillion than most
    modern sports bikes.

Like he said, handling is Shite but a laugh.

The original seat though is like a sofa, so long distances wont be an issue.

    Cheers!

The guy on the R6 (I think) in front was shocked when I went round him, all
decked out. Its better going round to the right cos the exhaust touches down
and makes a high pitched squeal when it does so.

I thought maybe one of those big, full size Rickman fairings for it!

Next year it will be ace, gonna have an underseat exhuast, unitrack engine,
unitrack swinging arm but retaining the twin shocks, and all resprayed.

Thats big old Roly that, he rides like that all the time, Billy Bolt
Upright, and yet is fucking quick.
I dunno how he does it, marvellous to watch though!
Snigger, funny thing is, Chris is a little block, shows how small the bike
is. It goes round in 1' 2"s as well, very quick.

Doing the Endurance again this year?

I used to ride pillion on my mate's Z650 many moons ago and it was really
