Zippo fuel

Is there a sensible alternative[1] until I can get to a shop that sells
it tomorrow?

Is meths ok? I don't want to use unleaded.

Lighter fluid, afair, is naptha. UL petrol will burn but fairly smokily.

Never tried meths in a Zippo, but if it doesn't actually blow up in your
hand, then what's the harm.

I've used meths in a Zippo before - it takes a good spark to light it,
but doesn't taint too much and there's no lasting side-effects to the
lighter. Other common flammables aren't so good - unleaded tastes
particularly bad and smokes like a bastard. Don't even consider
thinners, OK?

Rum and black works quite well and yields a fruity, sweet taste to yer
tab but it turns your wadding purple - which fades to pink after a few
fills of the right stuff. Whisky isn't bad ...

I've still got the pink-wadded lighter in question. Exhibit One.

When you're pissed and your lighter dies, it was common practice
amongst the banger/stock car racing fraternity that I was then
associating with to refill it with anything flammable that came to
hand. If it was out of a glass belonging to the pisshead on the end
of the bar who had just leaked off, so much the better in the general
hilarity stakes - especially if you used it to light his next fag.

In my defence, I've never used single malt to fill a Zippo - but I
know a man who has. Bushmills, otoh ...

 

Always the burny stuff of choice when it came to burning brake fluid
out of riveted brake shoes.

Take 1 bottle of vodka, 1 vanilla pod (split down the middle) 1 or 2
big spoons of brown sugar (adjust according to taste)... Try not to
touch for 2 weeks...
