ZRX1100 woes

Little brother's '97 ZRX1100. He's had it from new, uses it rarely
and panders to it so it's only done 12000 miles and is pristine. It's
just had the 12k service done by a small firm in London, close to
Tower Bridge, but the next day started running on three. He took it
back and, of course, it ran perfectly. Few days on, back on three
again, so he hoiked the plugs out to have a look and found one very
sooty. He changed the plugs but it was still not right so went back
again but got a fairly frosty response.

A few days on and it's back on 3 again, and now also dribbling fuel
from the overflow pipe and emitting blue smoke from the exhaust like a
two wheeled Red Arrow. Though I reckon he should go back and create a
fuss, he says he's not letting them anywhere near his bike again. I
suspect it's that old favourite, Shit In The Carb, but anyone else
    have any suggestions?

Well, yes, that's likely a major part of the problem. But not an
    immediate solution.

That's basically my thoughts. It's been serviced religiously by the
original dealer - but they're down on the S Coast miles from where he
lives which is probably why he used this outfit where he could drop it
on the way to work, get the tube in and then pick it up on the way
    home.

Any other possibilities for the cause than SITC?

Jap & German Motorcycles. I could find very little about the, good or
    bad, before he went there.

No. It's a sticky float valve, probably due to crap in the pipe.
A thrash at WFO often helps. If not, dismantle, clean, replace.
Don't leave the petrol tap on 'prime' while the engine isn't running
or you might fill one cylinder with petrol and get hydraulic lock
when you try to start it.

CV Carbs. Sticky slide, or blokcet jet, most likely, I reckon.

Rings a faint bell, that place - I think they're advertising as some
kind of BMW specialist doing both used bike sales and servicing.

Judging by the few bikes I saw advertised and the money they were asking
I've mostly given them a wide berth; nor do I know of any other BMW
rider using that place for servicing...

I won't be recommending them after the way they dealt with brother.
BTW, I'll get in touch about the Norton soon but off to NY tomorrow
    for a week.

    Not a surprise, that.
OK, no worries. I'm off to see my mum for the last week in May but other
than that I should have the time on a weekend.

Have you used them? Close enough to me, but I hadn't heard of them
    before this.

BTW lunchtime beer, when I get back?

No. A colleague with a Rockster got them to install a set of rear
    pads.

Me, use a bike mending shop, when I could spend weeks without end in
my own garage? The very idea.
    Oh, aye.
