ZX6 numpty question

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Paul Corfield, Jul 1, 2004.

  1. A question for those of a greater mechanical ability than me.

small problem - front offside indicator unit has become dislodged from
    its fairing slot.

The indicator unit is mounted on a rubber gasket. The gasket appears to
be a flush fit into the fairing. Within the fairing attached to the
electrical cable is what appears to me to be a mounting plate or
similar. The plate does not appear to have anywhere to secure to within
    the fairing.

question - is there a simple way of reconnecting the indicator unit to
the bike or do I have to take the fairing apart to manoeuvre the rubber
gasket onto the mounting plate and then secure it?

I have checked the owner's manual - nothing relevant in there.

    all advice gratefully received.

    No.

or do I have to take the fairing apart to manoeuvre the rubber
Thats the one. And its not just the side fiairng, its the whole nosecone
that needs to be removed. Its a PITA just for a sodding indicator

As the veteran of more than one indicator replacement ...

The metal plate stops the rubber mounting compressing enough to go through
the hole in the fairing, so you need to unscrew the plate, push the mounting
through and then relocate the plate.

IIRC can you can reach the back of the plate without taking the side panel
off, although you may have to loosen the top mountings a little.

    HTH,

  5. It's a complete and utter arse to refit the plate onto the back of the
rubber even after removing some of the fairing & air box. They stay in quite
well if you just push the rubber back through (it should have a lip that
fits inside the fairing) having removed the metal plate. If you fancy
bodging it then a couple of dabs of clear silicone (used sparingly) will
help it to stay there. If not set a good hour or two aside. hth.

  6. Thanks - prepare for further posts asking how to reinstall a ZX6 fairing
    :)
