  2. Red Book is your friend: $5,800 - $6,900.

just goes to show again how full of shit redbook is

Your location would help in giving a better idea of price
as places like QLD with QRide will get a better price as 600's
    are effectively a learner bike

    in syd
prob in the region of $4K or so without rego

Red Book, aka "The Book of Lies" is no-ones friend, except
perhaps the bits of the industry that manipulate the contents
    thereof for their own porpoises.

Yet it's amazing just how many people treat the figures it spews out as gospel. *sigh*

  7. OK, I hear you. And nobody pays the sticker price either, which is what
Red Book is reporting, but on Bikepoint:

    1) '97 ZX6R, silver, 8 months reg, dealer, Sydney, $6,990
    2) '97 ZX6R, black (repaint), 69k, dealer, Brisbane, $6,490
    3) '95 ZX6R, green, reg, 42k, dealer, Brisbane, $6,490
    4) '97 ZX6R, silver, dealer, Gold Coast, $5,990
    5) '96 ZX6R, green track bike with extras, private, Victoria, $5,200

So wouldn't an immaculate '97 with history be worth nearer $6,000 than
$4,000 (in Syd)? Which would put it in the Red Book range.

  8. Have you been to any dealers for an offer. I've sold a bike with a Redbook
value of $10,000+ for $6,000 because thats the most I could get (private
sale), it was a high mileage bike, but in very good cond just the same.

Trying to sell a bike can be very disappointing.

    as per al's suggestion

    1 is a dealer
2 has been crashed at a dealer
    3 is a dealer
    4 is a dealer
    5 is a track bike

notice my previous post that said about inflated prices in QLD due to being
    a learner bike

    FWIW

Futant sold his 98 in 04 was 40K immaculate , history, never crashed
needing chain and sprockets, tyres, and no rego and he struggled to get rid
of it and eventually took $6K

the big sticking point he had was 1 it wasnt the latest model and 2 it had
    40K on the clock

the question still remains as to where this bike is for sale for a more
    accurate price

If it is QLD , Darwin or Perth , then the redbook prices would be more
    closer to what
    you would expect to pay

but syd/act/mel then its way off the mark

  10. Too right I have, I just bought a bike stickered at the top end of the
Red Book range ($10,500) and I paid closer to the bottom. I think they
would have moved another few hundred but they weren't going to move
    several thousand. I figured a 15% margin.

'Mikker' wasn't clear whether he wanted to know what he ought to be
asking or what he ought to be expecting to get, but my point was that on
Bikepoint the dealers were asking Red Book, so why shouldn't 'Mikker'
ask a few hundred less? I probably should have been clearer about what
I was talking about: sticker price vs reasonable expectations.

And it may well be that Geoff is right and he'll get $4k if he's in
Sydney, because it's a 9 year old half litre sports bike with no rego.
But he might get Red Book too. He's certainly better off starting near
    there.
